Synopsis

Meet Dave. Dave is Prime Minister. Dave really wants to do the right thing. He keeps telling us he wants to do the right thing. Again and again and again. One afternoon he told us four times in half an hour.

Then he went off and did the right thing. Every morning when he wakes up, he reminds himself to remind us that he's doing the right thing.

But what is the right thing? And what is the wrong thing? And is doing the right thing the right thing or the wrong thing to do? Or is doing the wrong thing the right thing to do when doing the right thing might turn out to be the wrong thing, and doing the wrong thing might turn out to be the right thing?

Next to doing the right thing, the most important thing is to let people know you are doing the right thing. JOHN D. ROCKEFELLER

You can always count on Americans to do the right thing – after they've tried everything else WINSTON CHURCHILL

Sometimes it is better to lose and do the right thing than to win and do the wrong thing TONY BLAIR

If I lose the ball, I lose it trying to do the right thing. That's the way it is. FRANK LAMPARD

In this funny Regency romance series, the Shackleford sisters descend on a Regency society that doesn’t know what’s hit it…

With her four older sisters now married, it’s Patience Shackleford’s turn to take charge of her younger siblings’ education. But given that Patience’s most prodigious skill is lock picking, any abilities she passes on to her younger sisters are unlikely to provide any assistance in the drawing rooms of the genteel, especially as she has no interest in either high society, or horror of horrors… marriage. Indeed, her father the Reverend Augustus Shackleford is firmly of the opinion that the less society knows about his fifth daughter the better…

When Grace and Temperance, now married to influential members of the ton, offer to take her in hand and bring her out, both Patience and her father are entirely horrified. For once in total accord, they endeavour to hatch a plan to somehow avoid the upcoming Season.
But that’s before a chance meeting with the enigmatic and undeniably handsome Marquis of Guildford when Patience discovers that lock picking is exactly the expertise he happens to be looking for…

Perfect for fans of Regency Romances with wit and humor and a little bit of steam.

Once again, the cat must save the day

Ben who rides dragons is twice a hero. He's defeated all kinds of demons and learned how to transform into a chimera. That's powerful stuff for a mere cat.

Oh, how proud his ancestors would be if they saw him today.

In fact, he's far too powerful for Astravar, the mighty warlock and Ben's nemesis, who can't stand the thought of being defeated by a mere moggie. But now he has allied with the other warlocks and together they have a plan to destroy the kingdom.

Obviously, when the warlocks attack, everyone's going to turn to the mighty Dragoncat for help. That's the problem with being a hero, you see. When threats loom on the horizon, everyone expects said hero to step up to the plate and save the day.

Alas, war involves giving up a lot of home comforts, and Ben doesn't like that one bit.

Best Books of 2022 - The New Yorker“Slyly defiant and blazingly imaginative, like the best modernist literature, Everything Abridged is a powerful celebration of flaw and failure. It’s a book that revels in the timelessness of obsolescence and the freedom of powerlessness. Dayle’s a genre-shattering writer, whose wit and intellect never cease to entertain. This refreshingly original and powerfully funny collection is a debut to remember.” —Paul Beatty, New York Times bestselling author of The Sellout For readers of David Wong, Paul Beatty, and George Saunders, an electrifying and wholly original collection of satirical stories that create a bitingly funny portrait of American racism, capitalism, and politicsFramed as a reference work of humorous “entries” that offer trenchant social commentary, Everything Abridged presages a dark vision of the near future but tells jokes in the face of it: An intelligence agency operative uncovers a conspiracy to generate conspiracies and realizes his participation in the scheme. A Caribbean monarch meets four decades of American presidents and adjusts his country’s foreign policy accordingly. Experiment participants are asked to bring back a gun as quickly as possible. A copywriter on a space colony advertises a weapon with the potential to destroy his home during an intergalactic war. These and other linked stories, many of which feature a speculative bent—about being Black in America, law enforcement practices in an android society, Olympic speed walking, consumerism, nuclear war, and more—are interspersed with hilarious, one-line definitions for words ranging from abolition to zygote, creating a sharply humorous portrait of American inequality. With his singular wit, sharp prose, and shrewd observations, Dennard Dayle captures the struggles his characters face to keep hold of their sanity in a society collapsing into chaos and absurdity.

A funny and emotionally resonant coming-of-age novel about one summer of momentous social and political change at a Jewish sleepover camp

It’s the summer of 2013 and 21-year-old Ruby, a counselor at Camp Burntshore, can’t wait to supervise a rowdy cabin of 11-year-olds, smoke weed by the fire, and argue about which city make the best bagels. But when Brent, the camp owner’s son, hires Israeli soldiers to deal with a staffing shortfall, Ruby, a committed anti-Zionist, must decide if she’s willing to jeopardize her place at Burntshore to fight Brent over the contentious issues of Jewish belonging and settler colonialism, even as she finds herself falling in love with one of the soldiers, the sweetly handsome Etai.

Soon it becomes clear that the conflict is not just about the camp’s internal divisions but also about Burntshore’s relationship with the neighboring Black Spruce First Nation, strained because of Brent’s larger scheme to buy the Crown land surrounding the lake. As campers swim, go canoe tripping, and stage an over-the-top musical, Ruby has to contend with her feelings for Etai while simultaneously trying to save her beloved camp from greed and colonialism. A social satire, romance, and political commentary all in one, Lake Burntshore celebrates the contemporary Jewish world through its most iconic symbol — the often idyllic yet always dramatic summer camp.

When aliens descend on Earth, most people panic.
Mariko Waterfield sees it as a sign: time to leave North Loop Manor and start a new chapter out west. The world is changing, the future uncertain—but before she can move on, she owes her best friends one final farewell. One last perfect goodbye in the shadow of an alien invasion.
Over two strange, bittersweet nights in and around El Paso, Mariko and her tight-knit crew of misfits stumble through drunken mishaps, tutoring drama, disastrous bikini contests, makeshift healing rituals, and the quiet comfort of an all-night diner. As they wander through the city, they find solace in the small, stubbornly human moments: awkward crushes, inside jokes, late-night confessions, and the memories you hold onto when everything else is falling away.
A slice of life, coming-of-age story set in the aftermath of an alien invasion, this darkly funny and heartfelt novel explores friendship, change, and the strange beauty of letting go. It’s about finding peace in the chaos, holding on to what matters most, and the quiet bravery it takes to say goodbye to the life you knew—and step into the unknown.
Perfect for fans of bittersweet ensemble comedies, quirky character-driven sci-fi, or anyone who’s ever had to leave something behind to move forward.
