Beschreibung

The novel tells of the encounter with the pioneers of bamboo bicycle construction, at the end of the 19th century in Austria, through a journey through time. The journey into virtual reality is made possible by artificial intelligence. The framework is a research project called Metaverse+. Rigorously researched, historical facts are woven into a narrative that makes clear the motivations and emotions of the pioneers. Behind this, however, there is always the question of what the retrospective experience of past events means for the time travelers.

'Sometimes I wonder, if I had known that it was going to take me fourteen years to paint this painting of the Crucifixion with Douglas as Jesus, and what it would take for me to paint this painting, would I have been as happy as I was then?'

Susan Alison MacLeod, a Glasgow School of Art graduate with a dark sense of humour, first lays eyes on Douglas MacDougal at a party in 1988, and resolves to put him on the cross in the Crucifixion painting she's been sketching out, but her desire to create 'good' art and a powerful, beautiful portrayal means that a final painting doesn't see the light of day for fourteen years.

Over the same years, Douglas's ever-more elaborately designed urine-based installations bring him increasing fame, prizes and commissions, while his modelling for Susan Alison, who continues to work pain and suffering on to the canvas, takes place mostly in the shadows. This Good Book is a wickedly funny, brilliantly observed novel that spins the moral compass and plays with notions of creating art.

Phoenix is sinfully beautiful, but she stole from me. And, she didn't know that I was a monster. Now she's mine. Mine to break. Mine to cut. Mine to bleed.
    Phoenix.
Cain is my torturer. A gorgeous psychopath. Coldhearted. Brutal. And deadly mysterious. But I'm determined to stand strong. To survive. To somehow not be destroyed. Yet he keeps cutting. He keeps digging, until buried, forgotten emotions rise to the surface. He keeps bleeding me until my heart and soul collide to endless ruin, and I beg, I plead for the pain.
Best-selling author Kenya Wright explores the darker parts of her mind through her alter ego, Taylor Rose.
Warning: Listener discretion is advised. This is a twisted ride. Dark psychological themes, dubious situations, and intense sexual circumstances layer this story and may be triggering or offensive to some.
