Synopsis

Giallo - short story (22 pagine) - In a sweltering Parisian night, jazz and betrayal hit all the wrong notes.

In Some Parisian Hot-Desking, Dr. Watson finds himself entangled in a high-stakes mystery that stretches from the shadowy streets of London to the glittering boulevards of Paris. When Colonel Moran, the infamous deputy of the late Professor Moriarty, resurfaces in Paris, Watson and Sherlock Holmes are drawn into a dangerous plot to assassinate the French President. But beneath the surface of political intrigue lies a scandalous secret—one that could shake the British Empire to its core. Packed with wit, suspense, and the signature brilliance of Holmes’ deductions, this story reveals a shocking chapter in the battle between justice and corruption—one that Watson himself may never have dared to publish until now.

Herbert George Wells was born on September 21st, 1866 at Atlas House, 46 High Street, Bromley, Kent. He was the youngest of four siblings and his family affectionately knew him as ‘Bertie’.

The first few years of his childhood were spent fairly quietly, and Wells didn’t display much literary interest until, in 1874, he accidentally broke his leg and was left to recover in bed, largely entertained by the library books his father regularly brought him. Through these Wells found he could escape the boredom and misery of his bed and convalescence by exploring the new worlds he encountered in these books.

From these humble beginnings began a career that was, after several delays, to be seen as one of the most brilliant of modern English writers.

Able to write comfortably in a number of genres he was especially applauded for his science fiction works such as The Time Machine and War of the Worlds but his forays into the social conditions of the times, with classics such as Kipps, were almost as commercially successful. His short stories are miniature masterpieces many of which bring new and incredible ideas of science fiction to the edge of present day science fact. Wells also received four nominations for the Nobel Prize in Literature

Despite a strong and lasting second marriage his affairs with other women also brought the complications of fathering other children. His writings and work against fascism, as well as the promotion of socialism, brought him into increasing doubts with and opposition to religion. His writings on what the world could be in works, such as A Modern Utopia, are thought provoking as well as being plausible, especially when viewed from the distressing times they were written in.

His diabetic condition pushed him to create what is now the largest Diabetes charity in the United Kingdom. Wells even found the time to run twice for Parliament.

It was a long, distinguished and powerfully successful career by the time he died, aged 79, on 13th August 1946.

    “Why?”
A deranged fan has wagered a dangerous game with the heirs of a popular author, Janae Mayfield (writing under the name, Annie Reeves), who has died without finishing her life’s work of completing her popular mystery series. The family (Reese Mayfield and Peter Mayfield) has vowed to let dead authors and their works lie, choosing not to release the notes for the final novel or to hire a ghostwriter to complete the series.
As Annie Reeves’s fortune dwindles and one member of the family disappears, other members are concerned that they may be next. The assailant vows that the family and its fortune will diminish little by little if they do not complete the work.
Are there notes for the last novel? How far will the menace go to have his or her obsession satisfied?
The case lands in the hands of an ancient FBI agent who remembers when you traded secrets via a note stuffed into a pack of bubble gum and it was clear who the enemy was.
Agents Luke Donovan and Kim Novak will ride along with Agent Dan Wharton and look over his shoulder. Though he seems one step behind, don’t underestimate his powers of perception.
You will get a peek at the popular series that ignites the reason for fandom gone wrong. The “Calendar Series” is what some call Annie Reeves’s thrilling novels.
Annie introduces us to Justine Phoenix Webb, an investigative reporter with a knack for finding the truth and leveraging justice. She also elicits help from the intuitive Captain of Police Cornell Beaker and FBI Agent Nicholas Kasey. There may or may not be a romantic entanglement.
Don’t forget you have an actual case to solve, unlike what you find in other works of fiction. You must solve it before you discover you are…out of time!
