Synopsis

Algorithm Bias Systems explores the pervasive issue of algorithmic bias, revealing how these systems can perpetuate and amplify societal inequalities. Far from being neutral, algorithms used in areas like hiring and criminal justice often reflect existing biases in data, leading to unfair outcomes. For instance, search algorithms can reinforce stereotypes, while AI-driven hiring processes may discriminate against certain groups due to biased training data. The book argues that algorithmic bias isn't a mere technical glitch but a systemic problem rooted in flawed design and a lack of diverse perspectives.

The book takes a comprehensive approach, starting with the fundamental concepts of algorithmic bias and its manifestations. It then delves into specific examples, such as biased search results and discriminatory hiring practices. The analysis extends to the use of algorithms in criminal justice, highlighting how they can perpetuate racial disparities in sentencing. Throughout its chapters, the book uses case studies, empirical research, and statistical analysis to support its arguments, drawing from real-world datasets to illustrate the impact of bias.

Ultimately, Algorithm Bias Systems aims to provide practical strategies for mitigating bias, including algorithm auditing, data diversification, and ethical guidelines for AI development. This makes the book uniquely valuable, offering insights for policymakers, data scientists, and anyone concerned about the societal implications of AI and the quest for algorithmic fairness.

This book is about freedom and the right to have an opinion. A concept that has been fought over for centuries. Whilst we think of Australia as being a free society, You Can't Say That! challenges this notion, arguing that the freedoms all Australians once enjoyed have been systematically eroded over last few decades, and how, as a nation, we must fight to get them back.Let this book guide you to a place where you ask: • Who are my masters? • How much do I desire to fit into the current trend of "progressive" thought and "woke" ideas which are fast becoming societal norms? • How far am I willing to go to accept the current trends of collectivism, conformity, hypocrisy and cancel culture? The Purpose of You Can't Say That! is to encourage discussion and debate in the current stifling politically correct environment, as well as providing a platform for those fighting to gain back their basic rights for freedom of speech. If you are tired of the opinions of elitist bullies telling you what you must say and think, taking over all debates in the mainstream media and within our institutions, then you can read this book and feel empowered that you in fact CAN say that.

In the 75th anniversary year of the sinking of the Lisbon Maru, A FAITHFUL RECORD OF THE LISBON MARU INCIDENT is a recent translation from an original Chinese publication covering an important chapter in Hong Kong’s wartime history. It gives details of the Lisbon Maru Incident of 1942, seen through the eyes of the Chinese fishermen who rescued hundreds of British prisoners of war from Hong Kong, whose ship had been torpedoed. The Japanese had tried to keep them in the holds as the ship sank so that they would drown, and then shot at them as they tried to escape. These courageous fishermen not only prevented hundreds more deaths, they also hid three prisoners under the noses of the Japanese until they could be sent secretly on a journey across more than 1,000 miles of China to reach Chongqing, from where they could tell the world what had happened. The book also recounts the visit to Zhoushan in 2005 of one of the survivors of the sinking and his emotional reunion with those who saved him; as well as a visit to Hong Kong in the same year of the last few remaining fishermen who had taken part in the rescue.

And so we were wanting to discuss the significance of the new book. We even know you are questioning the title of this, it wasn't about opening up your mindset, it was about understanding the significance of the written text, once again, and how that can be so profound, and absorption of the information is easier to digest. We see that the voice and the words through the videos with the sound can almost put people into a hypnotic state themselves, where they are not even able to consciously absorb and follow the information. They find that they have to keep listening to the sessions many times because they just go into a very relaxed trance state themselves where they're getting their own upgrades and epiphanies and senses of their own higher versions of selves and other multi-dimensional aspects of self.
This is going to be a profound book that we view this as, because this is the teachings of Jesus. And while we were giving you strong senses that we did not want you to abuse or label the name of him because of the misperceptions of who he is, and who he stands for; we see many people reluctant to be interested in what that man had to say, because they have still got a firm attachment to him being a part of a religion that may have been part of their inner childhood trauma or work, not just this lifetime. We know many who are still traumatized by being killed for a religion, either because they did not comply or they were trying to share other perspectives of religion. So there is much to be said about what religion has done to humanity. And of course, it's human free-will choices. But the truth has almost been so hidden from humanity that the truth has been so watered down and twisted with opinions. It's been a total manipulation for many. This is Earth's history. We cannot pretend it has not been as such.

At the core of this debut collection is a question – what is worth holding onto?
Through poetic experiments that blend the academic and the artistic, Rhiya Pau queries complex characters and tender landscapes. Routes journeys from Ba's kitchen in Sonia Gardens to Independence hour in Delhi, across the pink shores of Nakuru, to meet a painter on Lee High Road.
Celebrating fifty years since her community arrived in the UK, Pau chronicles the migratory histories of her ancestors and simultaneously lays bare the conflicts of identity that arise from being a member of the East African-Indian diaspora. In this multilingual discourse exhibiting vast formal range, Pau wrestles with language, narrative and memory, daring to navigate their collective fallibilities to architect her own identity.
'[Routes]...holds up to the light the wisdom of the past, and asks what else is passed down along with it...a work of humane intelligence, formal experiment and linguistic verve' - Sarah Howe, Judge of Eric Gregory Awards 2022

Have you ever wondered just what was the Hanseatic League?, How malt was made, or how eels get to the Sargasso Sea? The answers to these and many other questions will be found in this book.
Spanning the period from the Anglo-Saxons to the coming of the railway, two Points East is about the boats, the fishing and some of the lives lived on the North sea coast of Norfolk, from the once world-famous herring fishery in Great Yarmouth to the extraordinary rescues of Cromer’s famous lifeboatman Henry Blogg.
Judith Ellis lives in Norfolk with an insatiable curiosity and some very fine memories of sailing off the East Anglian coast. A lifelong interest in traditional boats combined with a love of history and sketching has found expression in this book.
