  An immigrant story of survival in the era of Empires. In the midst of repressive laws of the Tsars against Jews, this seventeen-year-old loner, Philip Lepar Leopold, boarded a ship in Riga, Ukraine, Western Russia, sailing to the USA. Fate stepped in and when it docked in Hull harbour in the United Kingdom en route, he changed his mind as something convinced him to stay and take his chances. The timing was on the cusp of the Industrial Revolution and the explosion of large scale manufacture where he found his strength in the tailoring trade as a master pattern cutter. Business took him to Belfast and four years later it seems the grass was greener and he met and married his wife and reared their eight children on the Emerald Isle. As their family grew and their roots spread, challenges were made and met by all of them, some self-inflicted, although it was the influence of his character which left a lasting impression on his granddaughter Beryl whom as she approached her 90th year finally agreed with her daughter, his great granddaughter Geraldine, to tell it all along with a precious photographic collection of over one hundred images. This true story is told to the backdrop of battles for supremacy in brutal World Wars, civil and political unrest and the unending curse of religious division. Scenarios which persistently inflicted their reach into this family's life as they passionately fought for a living, success and peace, all in God's name.

  Day Dream Believers 
    On 1st February 1963, Eileen and her family migrated from England to Australia. Leaving behind a close knit family and many treasured memories. They sailed on a ship to a land of blue skies, sunshine and vast horizons. 
  In `Day Dream Believers’ we follow Eileen and her families journey from the migrant town of Elizabeth West to the top end of Australia. Eileen comes from an Irish, Catholic background. Their family life in Elizabeth West in Adelaide is described in loving detail. It’s the era of the hoola hoop, the yo-yo, skipping ropes, marbles, and go-karts. 
  Her Dad would say,  
  ‘The Irish are all born to wonder, they are poets and dreamers……..’ 
  Forever searching for a better life and a place to belong, they leave Elizabeth West to live in Darwin. 
  ‘The breeze made its way through the louvres, but inside the house the air was still and warm. I could hear the clicking sound of a gecko and watched as it scurried up along the wall. The streetlight made patterns on the louvres. I could hear a few voices, the stragglers, keeping their beers company as the night drifted by.’ 
  We see the family surrounded by the culture of the time, pop songs, fashions, TV shows, and eventually Germaine Greer who ‘invited me to “taste my own menstrual blood.” It took guts, but when I did, I tasted power. It was not a burden.  
  And now, with blood dripping from my fingers, I smear the words: 
  “You cannot defeat me.” ’ 
  The 1970`s was the dawning of a new era, where the collective voices of many stood in defiance against the social norms of the day. 
  Eileen`s thoughtfully crafted memoir with it`s poignant insights of family life, simmering in the background of these ever changing turbulent times.

  In The Lonely Letters, A tells Moth: "Writing about and thinking with joy is what sustains me, daily. It nourishes me. I do not write about joy primarily because I always have it.   But alongside joy, A admits to Moth, come loneliness, exclusion, and unfulfilled desire. The Lonely Letters is an epistolary blackqueer critique of the normative world in which Ashon T. Crawley—writing as A—meditates on the interrelation of blackqueer life, sounds of the Black church, theology, mysticism, and love. Throughout his letters, A explores blackness and queerness in the musical and embodied experience of Blackpentecostal spaces and the potential for platonic and erotic connection in a world that conspires against blackqueer life. 
   
   
   
  Both a rigorous study and a performance, The Lonely Letters gestures toward understanding the capacity for what we study to work on us, to transform us, and to change how we inhabit the world.
