  In November 2005, hundreds of people submitted recordings of Shakespeare, Wordsworth and Roger McGough in an attempt to win a prize – participation in the recording of this new poetry collection by Christina Hardyment, historian and audiobook reviewer for The Times. The collection covers a wide range of classics by Shakespeare, Keats, Clare, Blake and others, as well as modern poems by Roger McGough among others. They are read mainly by the male and female first prize winners, but also by the runners-up. Poetry reading is alive and well in Britain!

He was one of the greatest representatives of the Decadent movement that began in the 1870s, and a leader of the Symbolists. His stylistic innovations brought a new musicality to French poetry; it was he who paved the way for modern poetry with its experiments in free verse and new techniques. Verlaine produced exquisitely crafted verse, conveying the strongest emotions and appetites. This translation by Gertrude Hall, herself a recognized poet, is one of the best rendering of Verlaine's work in English language.

But behind this shiny facade, nothing is quite right - and as cracks start appearing, attempts to paper over them make for an explosive evening of revelations and dark secrets exposed.
  Elephants premiered at Hampstead Downstairs in December 2014 in a production directed by Tamara Harvey.

  Beyond Good And Evil

  In 1886, Frederich Nietzsche self-published Beyond Good and Evil.  Structured into 296 separate sections, and nine parts, this work deconstructs the metaphysics and dogma established by previous philosophers. Nietzsche traced the roots of issues that he viewed hindered mankind in his society.  He spoke about what it means to be a free spirit, the prejudice of philosophers, and begins questioning traditional morality.On the Genealogy of Morals was published a year later in 1887.  Influenced by Fyodor Dostoevsky and Soren Kierkegaard, the book consisted of three overlapping essays.  It follows the evolution of morals and the moral prejudices of Christianity and Judaism.  In this book, Nietzsche goes into the history of values and why we’ve put so much emphasis these values. In his treatises, Nietzsche delves into the origin of good and evil, guilt, bad conscience, resentment, and how these parts of the human condition have evolved over time.
