Cosmic Striptease by Harlan Ellison - A picture is worth a thousand words—especially if they're Martian words and nobody can understand them. So Mars put on a spectacular for Earth, using the skies as a TV screen. This proved the superiority of their science. But their morals—Wow!
Harlan Ellison (1934–2018) was an American writer known for his bold, uncompromising storytelling in science fiction, fantasy, and speculative fiction. Born on May 27, 1934, in Cleveland, Ohio, he was a prolific author, editor, and outspoken critic who shaped modern speculative fiction with his sharp prose and provocative ideas.
    Ellison’s most famous works include:
“‘Repent, Harlequin!’ Said the Ticktockman” (1965) – A satirical dystopian tale about resistance against authoritarian control.
“I Have No Mouth, and I Must Scream” (1967) – A chilling story about a sadistic AI that tortures the last remnants of humanity.
Writing The City on the Edge of Forever – The award-winning Star Trek episode often considered the series’ best.
Ellison won multiple Hugo, Nebula, and Edgar Awards and was known for his fierce defense of writers’ rights.

    Girlfriend…without benefits?
Hometown hockey hero, Blake has life completely figured out. He’s footloose and fancy free with the world’s coolest job and an endless parade of puck bunnies ready to help him celebrate his victories. The status quo is working for him, so why does he agree to co-parent a stray puppy with his too-serious, workaholic neighbor, Erika? And why is he so annoyed when she suddenly starts dating some tool named Doug? And why can’t he stop finding excuses to see her and touch her and kiss her and… She’s not his girlfriend, right?
Erika has enough on her plate as an ER doctor without adding any more stress to her life. So adopting a dog with Blake, the fun-loving, never-take-anything-serious, commitment-phobe across the hall is a stupid idea, right? Of course, she also probably shouldn’t be his plus-one for charity galas either. Or seeking comfort from him during a thunderstorm. Or kissing his five-for-fighting boo-boos better. Or letting him teach her how to “reduce stress” with her personal toy collection. After all, he’s not her boyfriend. Is he?
So what happens when two people reluctant to commit find love where they least expect it… Right across the hall.

All I’d wanted for as long as I could remember was a woman to love, a soulmate to live with in contentment for the rest of my days: friend, lover, companion, mother to our children.
Time was running out: I was getting old. Next year I would be eighteen.
Barry Goldman is a sensitive boy. He’s being primed to run the family business but has discovered a talent for making audiences laugh at his silly poems.
At last, he has found something that might make him attractive to girls – in particular, Harriet Fink - but there’s not much call for delicate, earnest poets in the 1970s comedy world of hot-panted dolly birds and battle-axe mothers-in-law.
Then one night he sees Kris Dean on stage and understands that the world of comedy is about to change forever.
Stand Up, Barry Goldman – like Elena Ferrante, but with jokes - is the debut novel of David J. Cohen, stand-up comedian and writer best known as the creator of dozens of songs for multi-BAFTA winning hit TV show Horrible Histories, and less well known as lead singer in the world’s first Jewish heavy metal band, Guns’n’Moses.
"Funny and fascinating, a lovely tale." Jo Brand
"Powerfully funny, often moving... Dave has created the Jewish Adrian Mole of alternative comedy." David Quantick
