Synopsis

You may already have an idea of what Neo4j is and how it works, and maybe you've even played around with some ideas using it. The question now is how you can take your graph project all the way to production-grade. This is what is discussed in this book. The book starts with a brief introduction to Neo4j and its query language, CYPHER, to help readers who are just beginning to explore Neo4j. Then we go straight to the subject in question: how to set up a real life project based on Neo4j, from the proof of concept to an operating production-grade graph database. We focus on methodology, integrations with existing systems, performance, monitoring and security. As leading experts in the Neo4j French community, the authors have chosen an unusual format to transmit their technical know-how: they tell you a story, a graph project story, where the protagonists are members of a technical team who specializes in the representation and manipulation of strongly connected data. The plot starts when a client come in with his project. You will attend their working sessions and see how they develop the project, fight over approaches, and ultimately solve the problems they encounter. Welcome to GraphITs.Tech! This audacious and, we hope, entertaining approach allows you to experience all aspects of setting up a graph database, from the various and sometimes opposing points of view of technical and network experts, project managers, and even trainees.

Randomness is a concept used (and less formally) in mathematics to imply that there is no way to accurately predict an event (to know what will happen before it takes place) or to sense a trend. Anything that is randomly selected for no conscious purpose can be assumed to be simply by chance factor. An illustration of an occurrence random event is a financial windfall, a lottery win. A computer can generate lists of seemingly random numbers. It is difficult for humans to do the same, since the brain functions in patterns.
If someone is asked to keep repeating heads or tails at random, a considerate human observer or a reasonably programmed computer may eventually tell which one the person is likely to say next because the computer recognizes the patterns. The user can click on Random Page on a website such as English Wikipedia to get a random article. The odds of being on anyone's webpage are the same as on every other webpage.

During visits to the First World War battlefields the author often wondered where various Victoria Cross actions took place; he resolved to find out. Research commenced in 1988 and numerous sources have been consulted in the meantime. The book is designed for the battlefield visitor as much as the armchair reader. A detailed account of each VC action is set within the wider strategic and tactical context. Detailed sketch maps show the area today, together with the battle-lines and movements of the combatants. It allows visitors to stand upon the spot, or very close, where the VC actions took place and understand what happened and where. Photographs of the battle sites illustrate the accounts. There is also a comprehensive biography for each recipient covering every aspect of their lives 'warts and all' - parents and siblings, education, civilian employment, military career, wife and children, death and burial/commemoration. There is also a host of other information, much of it published for the first time. Some fascinating characters emerge, with numerous links to many famous people and events.

A Nobel Prize-winning physicist explains what happened at the very beginning of the universe, and how we know, in this popular science classic.  Our universe has been growing for nearly 14 billion years. But almost everything about it, from the elements that forged stars, planets, and lifeforms, to the fundamental forces of physics, can be traced back to what happened in just the first three minutes of its existence. In this book, Nobel Laureate Steven Weinberg describes in wonderful detail what happened in these first three minutes. It is an exhilarating journey that begins with the Planck Epoch - the earliest period of time in the history of the universe - and goes through Einstein's Theory of Relativity, the Hubble Red Shift, and the detection of the Cosmic Microwave Background. These incredible discoveries all form the foundation for what we now understand as the "standard model" of the origin of the universe. The First Three Minutes examines not only what this model looks like, but also tells the exciting story of the bold thinkers who put it together.  Clearly and accessibly written, The First Three Minutes is a modern-day classic, an unsurpassed explanation of where it is that everything really comes from.
