Beschreibung

In the forgotten hills of West Virginia, a dark presence lurks within a long-abandoned farmhouse, hungry for fresh souls.

When John Dorsett moves his family into the crumbling homestead, they have no warning of the unspeakable horrors that await. Strange events begin to unfold around them - scratching in the walls, cries in the night, shadows dancing at the edge of sight.

As the supernatural occurrences grow more terrifying, John realizes his family is caught in the crosshairs of a deadly struggle between forces beyond his understanding. He'll stop at nothing to save his wife and children, even if it means journeying into a nightmarish world of untold dangers.

But can he outrun the darkness coming for them all? Will his family survive the ancient evil that calls their new home its hunting ground? John is about to find out what true darkness remains when the sun goes down in rural Appalachia...

Delving into the mysteries of the paranormal, What Darkness Remains is a chilling tale that will keep you turning pages late into the night. With palpable suspense and vividly drawn characters, Nicholas Barker invites you to step into the shadows and experience the terror for yourself...if you dare.

Series Placement: Timeless Terrors No. 68
    Description:
The Moonlit Road is one of Ambrose Bierce’s most chilling and psychologically complex tales — a masterclass in suspense, moral horror, and the haunting distortions of memory. Told through three interwoven perspectives, the story follows a quiet country road bathed in moonlight, where a seemingly ordinary walk conceals a brutal crime. A husband recounts the events with detached calm, a grieving mother seeks desperately for the truth, and finally, the dead themselves reveal what the living refuse to see. Each perspective deepens the unease, exposing guilt, cruelty, and the inescapable consequences of self-deception.
Narrated by Amazon-bestselling horror author Jonathan Dunne, this performance brings Bierce’s razor-sharp insight, dark irony, and moral complexity to life. While the text itself is in the public domain, this narration and production are copyright © 2025 Jonathan Dunne.
Part of Timeless Terrors, a series dedicated to resurrecting the greatest ghost and horror stories ever written, The Moonlit Road is a stark reminder that the truth may linger long after death has spoken. 🕯️

Mary Wollstonecraft Godwin was born on the 30th August 1797 in Somers Town, London.

Her mother, the famous feminist philosopher, educator, and writer Mary Wollstonecraft died when Mary was only 11 days old and she was raised by her father, the philosopher, novelist, journalist, and perpetually in debt, William Godwin.

Though Mary received little formal education her father taught her a broad range of subjects and added to her bright and curious personality she easily absorbed a good and broad education.

In July 1814, after conducting a secret affair with the poet Percy Bysshe Shelley, who had earlier promised to pay off yet another round of her father’s business debts, the pair eloped to France. Within two months, penniless and pregnant they returned to England.

Her husbands’ affairs caused her frequent heartbreak but despite all the travails, including the loss of her own child, Shelley’s recent inheritance gave them the opportunity to journey again to Europe.

It was here that ‘Frankenstein’ was born and established Mary’s own name in literature.

Her life hereafter was plagued with loss; the death of two further children and then her husband in a boating accident. Her writing continued through novels, travel pieces and biographies. Her short stories, some based in Europe, tackle difficult situations and genres as well the obstacles that women were burdened with in society. Her editorship of her late husband’s poetry was also widely praised.

Mary’s radical politics continued to guide her journey throughout her life but, by 1840, illness had begun to haunt her years, depriving her of energy and vigour.

Mary Shelley died on the 1st February 1851, at Chester Square, London of a suspected brain tumour. She was 53.
