Summary

Landfill Regulation Scope examines the complex environmental laws governing landfills, crucial for protecting our planet and public health. The book highlights the necessity of effective and adaptive environmental regulations in mitigating the environmental impact of landfills and ensuring the safety of surrounding communities. It traces the evolution of landfill regulation, highlighting the critical role of waste classification, pollution control measures, and permit acquisition in transforming waste management into an environmentally conscious process.

Did you know that lax regulation can lead to environmental degradation and public health risks? What's more, this book asserts that understanding the nuances of these regulations is crucial for policymakers, environmental professionals, and citizens alike.

The book adopts a holistic approach, providing a comprehensive overview of the entire regulatory landscape, from initial permitting to long-term monitoring, and offering insights from science, engineering, and law. It begins by introducing fundamental concepts of waste classification, landfill design, and environmental permits. Dedicated chapters focus on key areas such as groundwater protection, air emissions control, and leachate management, culminating in an examination of long-term site monitoring and post-closure care. The book also uses case studies to illustrate both successful and unsuccessful landfill management strategies.

The way of the mystic is a path to divine union that requires no temple, no money, no guru, no priest, no system. By following it you can reveal your own sacred purpose on earth, regardless of faith, age, sexual orientation, or gender. On The Direct Path, Andrew Harvey confronts 2,000 years of distortion about the mystical life, and challenges you to begin your own personal transformation via the direct path. On this two-session program, we learn how to free ourselves to follow this true path to the “highest temple of God”—through our body, and its sacred life in the world. With scholarship and passion, Harvey describes the enormous sacrifices and rewards of the direct path to the divine, and the traps you will inevitably face along the way. Join him to explore: • How mysticism can lead to escapism • Why our sexuality must be honored for its sacred purpose • The five temptations every mystic faces, and more The true mystic of today, Harvey concludes, is also a “revolutionary activist” who votes and reads the paper, while embracing the daily disciplines of contemplation, prayer, and service. With The Direct Path, Andrew Harvey offers a vision of a possible world that honors the divinity in every living thing, while laying to rest the falsehood that the mystical life is reserved for a chosen few.

One of those lies is that you should be able to manage what you're struggling with all by yourself, but in Depression, Anxiety, and Other Things We Don't Want to Talk About, pastor and psychotherapist Ryan Casey Waller reminds us that we don't have to suffer alone.

Praise for Depression, Anxiety, and Other Things We Don't Want to Talk About:
"I work with Christian leaders from all over the country and have seen firsthand how desperately we need to be talking about depression and anxiety. What prior generations considered taboo, the leaders of today and tomorrow consider essential. Whether you're new to the conversation of mental health or intimately familiar with its complexities, Waller's book has something for you. I can't wait for you to read this."

Philosophy is often seen as anything but practically relevant to everyday life. In this brief, accessible introduction, Ross Inman explores four hidden assumptions that lurk behind questions involving philosophy's relevance. He shows that philosophy is one of most practical subjects of study, for it satisfies our deep human need to make sense of it all.

This book recovers a more classical vision of Christian philosophy as an entire way of life. Inman shows that wonder is the distinctively human posture that drives and sustains the examined life and makes a compelling case that philosophy is valuable, practical, and significant for every aspect of Christian life and ministry. Living philosophically as a Christian enables us to be properly attuned to what is true and good in Christ and to orient our lives to the highest goals worth pursuing.

This is an ideal introductory book for students of philosophy, Christian thought, and worldview studies. It will also work well in classical school, high school, and homeschool contexts.

Entering 1943, the Allies looked to press their advantage in the Pacific and Western Europe. The United States was firmly pushing the Japanese back across the Pacific, while the Americans and British plotted a major invasion somewhere in Western Europe to relieve the pressure on the Soviets. By the time the Allies conducted that invasion, the Soviets had lifted the siege of Stalingrad.
Even before the British and Americans were able to make major strategic decisions in 1943, a massive German surrender at Stalingrad in February marked the beginning of the end for Hitler’s armies in Russia. From that point forward, the Red Army started to steadily push the Nazis backward toward Germany. Yet it would still take the Red Army almost an entire two years to push the Germans all the way out of Russia. In July, just a few months after the surrender at Stalingrad, the Allies conducted what at the time was the largest amphibious invasion in history, coordinating the landing of two whole armies on Sicily, over a front more than 100 miles long. Within weeks of the beginning of the Allied campaign in Italy, Italy’s government wasted no time negotiating peace with the Allies and quickly quit the war.
Though Italy was no longer fighting for the Axis, German forces continued to occupy and control Italy in 1943. The Germans attempted to resist the Allies’ invasion on Sicily but were badly outmanned and outgunned, leading to a German evacuation of the island within a month. The Allies would land on the mainland of Italy in September and continue to campaign against the Germans there.
With Allied forces firmly established in Italy, the British and Americans began to plot a much more massive invasion to liberate Western Europe from the Nazis.
