Discover the extraordinary history of the English Civil War...

The English Civil War was one of the most transformative periods in British history, a conflict that tore apart the kingdom and reshaped its future. From political upheavals to deep religious divides, the seeds of this bloody struggle were planted long before the first shots were fired. This book dives into the tumultuous era, exploring the reign of Charles I, the rise of Parliament, and the power of faith in shaping political alliances.

Experience the opening clashes of the First Civil War, as Cavaliers and Roundheads faced off in brutal battles that would shape the destiny of the nation. Dive into the lesser-told stories of the women who fought, supported, and endured the trials of war. Then, explore the dramatic final years of the conflict, as Oliver Cromwell rose to power and led England through an unprecedented period of republican rule.

Discover a plethora of topics such as:

- The rise of Parliament and resistance to royal authority
- The clash between Puritanism and Anglicanism

Lying in the middle of a plain in modern day Iran is a forgotten ancient city: Persepolis. Built two and a half thousand years ago, it was known in its day as the richest city under the sun. Persepolis was the capital of Achaemenid Persian Empire, the largest empire the world had ever seen, but after its destruction, it was largely forgotten for nearly 2,000 years, and the lives and achievements of those who built it were almost entirely erased from history. Alexander the Great’s troops razed the city to the ground in a drunken riot to celebrate the conquest of the capital, after which time and sand buried it for centuries.
The Parthian people created an empire that lasted almost 500 years, from the mid-3rd century BCE until 224 CE, and it stretched from the Euphrates River in the west to Central Asia and the borders of Bactria in the east. In fact, the expansive empire challenged the Romans on numerous occasions for supremacy in the Near East.
During the first half of the 1st millennium CE, an empire arose in Persia that extended its power and influence to Mesopotamia in the east, Arabia in the south, the Caucasus Mountains in the north, and as far east as India. This empire, known alternatively as the Sasanian Empire or Sassanid Empire, was the last of three great dynasties in Persia—the Achaemenid and the Parthian being the first two dynasties—before the rise of Islam.
Amid the upheaval in the Islamic world following Muhammad’s death, the Umayyad Caliphate lasted for less than a century, but in that time it managed to become one of the most influential of the major caliphates established following him. 	The Umayyads would be replaced by the far more intelligent and crafty Abbasids, who managed to wield powerful tools like propaganda to undermine their opponents, but eventually, the Ottomans would consolidate control of the area for nearly 500 years.

Why, after over 100 Sigma war games showed us that we could not win, did we still go into Vietnam? Why, if one military doctrine irrefutably indicates that it can succeed time after time, is it not adopted in every military action? Why do warriors hate war? Because their bosses don't understand it. What's the mission? How do we win? What is winning? Bush said that winning was when the major combat operations were ceasing. Maybe so, but knowing how to win a war while striving not to be in one makes a real warrior. Warriors Hate War-Strategy, politicization, successes, and failures of the American military by Glenn Sturm explores the military actions since WW11 through lenses that reveal alternate outcomes and pose frameworks that could inform decision-making for the future of war and, more importantly, peace.
    About the Author
Glenn W Sturm earned a Juris Doctor with honors from the Levin College of Law at the University of Florida, where he was named to the Order of the Coif. Sturm served in the U.S. military as a commissioned officer on active duty and in the reserves for over 30 years. In his other lives, he is a best-selling author, photographic artist, and philanthropist, and he strives every day to make the lives of others better while continuing to navigate his way through over a decade and a half of life with incurable cancer.

It was late, dark and cold. The little band of travelers were huddled together on the bench of an old train hoping to escape the tightening Nazi noose. Suddenly, they heard the conductor’s loud voice, “Vos papiers, s'il vous plaît!” (Papers, please!). My mother’s identity card had been stamped not once, but twice with the word, “Juif.” She knew that her life and that of her friends now rested in the palms of a stranger, a government official whose job it was to hand them over to the Germans.

This is one of the many miraculous escapes found throughout this book. It is a story of survival, not just from the Holocaust, but from old world poverty, broken love and a tenuous peace in order to finally achieve the “American Dream.”
