Synopsis

Inspired by the innovations of Theocritus, Moschus of Syracuse and Bion of Smyrna further developed the bucolic genre of poetry. Their extant works describe pastoral scenes of rural life in a classical style, composed in dactylic hexameters and Doric dialect. The three members of the bucolic canon were highly regarded throughout Greco-Roman antiquity and into the modern era. Delphi’s Ancient Classics series provides eReaders with the wisdom of the Classical world, with both English translations and the original Greek texts. "Where does all the grief go when it's not tugging at your wrist?" Enyegue's debut collection is an ode to girlhood, to Blackness, to generational trauma, sexual assault, and mental health.

This collection does not aim to heal anyone who reads it, but instead help them confront their own healing. Rather than sugar-coated bullets that enter you lightly, these poems are designed to hurt.

They are for the girls with difficult names, the boys with softness at their core, and the people with neither. They are meant for the people who are Black, and the people who are not—because we are all tethered together by the heaviness of the human experience.

Boy/Mother is a deeply moving exploration of a mother's relationship with her son who has a long-term mental illness. In innovative forms the poems evoke the day-to-day depredations of illness, psychiatric treatment and societal attitudes and yet the thread that runs through the collection is love. – Jane Clarke

The tender messages in this book differ from every other book about “mommy’s kisses.” Through rhyme which doesn’t miss a beat, we see the many ways a little girl’s mommy uses kisses to teach, coax, soothe, encourage, play and convey a myriad of other expressions of love. This story is also unique in showing the way a mother’s loving kisses are passed down from generation to generation, providing a satisfying ending, with the newest generation about to receive her rich inheritance. If you are a mother with a young daughter, buy this audiobook for her—you’ll both treasure it!

'What doctor know about our illness? Just give you pills to sick you stomach and a doctor certificate. What they know about a black woman soul?'
In North London, Del and Viv are soul-sick. Del doesn't want to be at home; staying out late – 3 p.m.-the-next-day late – is more her thing. Viv scours her schoolbooks trying to find a trace of herself between their lines.
When Enid takes her daughters to the local obeah woman for some traditional Caribbean soul-healing, secrets are spilled. There's no turning back for Del, Viv and Enid as they negotiate the frictions between their countries and cultures.
Two generations. Three incredible women. Winsome Pinnock's play Leave Taking is an epic story of what we leave behind in order to find home. It premiered in 1987, and was revived at the Bush Theatre, London, in 2018, in a production directed by the Bush's Artistic Director, Madani Younis.
Winsome Pinnock has written numerous plays, including Talking in Tongues, for which she won the George Devine and Pearson Best New Play Awards.
