Synopsis

The Infection Spreads: How the World Became Undead is a chilling collection of dark, morbid, and mind-bending short stories that explore the terrifying origins of the zombie apocalypse. Each story reveals a new, unexpected cause of the outbreak, blending science fiction, horror, and dystopian terror in one unforgettable anthology. With every turn of the page, the horrifying consequences of humanity's curiosity, ambition, and carelessness unfold—showing that sometimes the deadliest threats come from the most innocent-seeming sources.
In this collection, you will encounter a chilling mix of apocalyptic events that serve as the backdrop for the catastrophic rise of the undead. From a seemingly harmless new virus spread by bats to a meteorite that unleashes an uncontrollable energy, these stories dive into the root causes of the zombie plague. The book also delves into experimental technology gone wrong, such as malfunctioning brain chips and genetic modifications that trigger horrific mutations. The world of The Infection Spreads is one where the price of progress and exploration is a descent into madness.
A new wonder drug meant to cure depression instead turns millions into mindless, flesh-eating creatures, while a social media influencer's promoted sports drink does more than just boost energy—it triggers a wave of zombie transformation. A new virus from a once-innocent pollen outbreak and a government experiment that creates a new type of nanobot soon turn from hopeful innovation to apocalyptic nightmare. Whether it's a malfunctioning nano-virus, toxic chemicals seeping into the environment, or the consequences of a strange celestial event, each story in this book brings a fresh, horrifying take on the start of the zombie plague.
But it's not just the disastrous experiments or the infection that makes these stories terrifying—it's the emotional and psychological impact on the characters. As cities crumble and governments fall, survivors are left to face their fears in a world they no longer recognize. Despair, isolation, and helplessness permeate each narrative, with every character struggling to stay alive as they fight not only the zombies but also their own crumbling sense of humanity. In these tales, survival comes with a cost, and redemption is all but impossible.
The Infection Spreads pulls no punches in its portrayal of the human condition as the world succumbs to its darkest nightmare. Whether it's through the destruction of families, the collapse of cities, or the moral degradation of society, the book reveals that, sometimes, the real horror lies not in the creatures that walk the earth but in the people left behind. These stories will leave you on the edge of your seat, turning pages as fast as you can, knowing that with each moment, humanity's fate draws closer to the inevitable.
If you're a fan of bone-chilling horror, apocalyptic fiction, and the slow burn of dread building with every passing page, The Infection Spreads is the perfect addition to your bookshelf. Prepare to question the limits of human innovation, and whether mankind can survive the consequences of its own actions.

Rabbits Have Long Ears by Lawrence F. Willard - The computer classified it "rabbit" and Montresig was not one to argue, long ears or not!
Commander Losure gave orders to his navigator to bring the ship in on the satellite out of sight of the prying telescopes which no doubt existed on such an invitingly green planet. He was a cautious man and didn't intend to lose any more crew members if he could help it. He could tell by the unusually poor handling of the ship that the crew was still demoralized from the brush with the high I.Q. slugs on that last planet which they had approached so directly. They'd lost three men in that scrap, one of them a highly-valued anthropologist. There were only two more of those left in the freeze locker. Too bad it couldn't have been a radio operator, there were plenty of those on ice.
The Commander's thoughts were interrupted by his second officer who entered without the customary military burp.
"I'll forgive you this time, Montresig," said the Commander, "but we can't relax regulations now, can we. Anything new to report on this planet?"
"No, Your Loftiness," said Montresig, after giving a belated burp, "there's nothing to add to what we already know, but then we've just come to rest on this clinker of a moon. I don't imagine, however, that we've located our long lost ancestors or our mythical home planet. There doesn't seem to be a race in this galaxy that walks upright on two good legs with two arms, two eyes, nose, mouth and other standard equipment."
"Could be we'll find one this time," said the Commander. "We know it's an oxygen planet, and that there are intelligent beings there, judging from the cities we can see and their use of radio."
"Maybe," grumbled Montresig, "but they won't be men. If they're not slugs they'll be talking fish or intellectual spiders, or something equally repulsive.

Any good children’s book needs to have a memorable moral, and The Vanishing Doorknob by L. M. Haynes certainly does not disappoint. The doorknob of a family’s home seems to physically vanish, slowly, as the owner becomes more secluded, not answering his door to the repeated requests of fellow townspeople, as depression sets into his life.
The scene is set on the edge of a New England town called Coventry. The Grayson family’s home was a beautiful home, adorned with a loving multi-generational family of love, faith and happiness for so many years. But as misfortune began to overtake the grandparents and parents of Kyle Grayson, with untimely deaths, he felt alone and unwilling to venture out of his house, sequestering himself in his own isolation.
It came to a point in which Kyle said a prayer to the Lord. "Dear Lord," he would pray, "please remove all bitterness and anger from my heart and replace it with the joy I knew as a child. The people of this town have been so kind to me. I want so very much to repay their kindness." Soon his prayer was answered. A heavenly angel knocked on his door; ultimately Kyle opened the door and vowed never to turn pe
