Sinossi

In "Tartuffe; Or, The Hypocrite," Molière masterfully unveils the complexities of human deceit and religious hypocrisy through incisive wit and sharp social commentary. The play immerses the reader in the life of Orgon, a wealthy bourgeois who becomes infatuated with Tartuffe, a cunning conman masquerading as a pious man. Molière employs a blend of comedic dialogue and dramatic tension, characteristic of French Neoclassical theatre, to expose the absurdities of blind faith and the folly of gullibility. Set against the backdrop of 17th-century France, this provocative work not only challenges societal norms but also engages with contemporary religious discourse, making it as relevant today as it was during its original performance. Molière, born Jean-Baptiste Poquelin in 1622, emerged as one of the most influential playwrights in Western literature, drawing inspiration from the societal mores and philosophical inquiries of his time. The playwright's own experiences with religious hypocrisy and the tension between faith and folly are intricately woven into the fabric of "Tartuffe," reflecting the moral dilemmas of an era grappling with the Enlightenment's questioning of established beliefs. Highly recommended for both scholars and casual readers, "Tartuffe" serves as a timeless critique of human nature and societal pretensions. Its memorable characters and witty exchanges resonate powerfully, inviting readers to reflect on the fine line between sincerity and deception. A staple in literary studies, this play remains a must-read for anyone seeking insight into the nuances of morality and the art of satire.

This collection of short stories and poems ranges from mysterious fires that spring up from the earth to ghostly spirits roaming in a long-forgotten home to true love that is found and lost way too soon.
There are tales of gods who have gone mad and those who have forgotten what it feels like to create and love with empathy. There are encounters that seem like normal everyday situations, but they are anything but normal. Dispersed throughout are poems that tie together the ideas of worlds within worlds and galaxies within a grain of sand.

Six Characters in Search of an Author (Sei personaggi in cerca d'autore) is the most famous and celebrated play by the Italian writer Luigi Pirandello.Pirandello, in the preface to the play, says that whenever a reader opens Dante’s Inferno, Francesca will drift down from the dark wind in her circle of Hell and tell the Pilgrim her story; and it will always be for the first time – just as the Mother in Pirandello’s play at one point makes an agonizing cry, always for the first time. Each character sees events and the other characters differently. Their readings of reality do not match up. No one character is more correct than the other. There are as many versions of the story as there are characters in the play. Each character is in fact many characters; each has a sense of who he or she is, but each also is what the others believe he or she is.The play suggests that we are more victims of forces we cannot control than captains of our own fate and demonstrates Pirandello's conception that in place of a continuous ego, self or "I" are states of mind, masks or personae; the temporary result of forces brought to bear on us at that moment. The self becomes an anthology of such roles or masks. Theatricalists thought life was more like theater than vice versa. As in theater, we put on and take off masks, try out various roles, and make up our lives as we go along. USEFULNESS of HIPPOPOTAMUS THE -...

I am staring at a blank piece of paper, wondering what to write. Where do I begin? My mind begins to wander-pleasant thoughts of Disney's Fantasia dance in my head. The dancing hippopotamus comes to mind, and this made me laugh. The result: I penned a poem on the hippopotamus from which a chapbook was born: The Usefulness of Hippopotamus: A Humorous Chapbook for Trying Times.
One cannot imagine a world without humor. Without humor, the world will be dark, cold, and a sad place, tragically lacking joy, cheerfulness, and laughter.
Humor is medicine. During rough times, humor will help lighten and lessen physical and mental anxiety.
In challenging times, I chose humor. During the Pandemic, I had to deal with my bladder cancer. In my struggle not to get depressed or dwell in negativity, to find solace, contentment, and peace, I chose to seek out beauty and laugh.
In search of happiness, the humor worked its charm, resulting in a treasure chest of joy. So, I wrote my chapbook, The Usefulness of Hippopotamus: A Humorous Chapbook for Trying Times and discovered humor even among the hippopotami!
    You can, too.
Peace & flowers. Love & light.
