"Penelope the Shetland Pony" is a heartwarming nursery rhyme about six-year-old Bonny from Heyshott, Sussex, who discovers a neglected black Shetland pony with a beautiful silver mane abandoned in a field. The poor pony is thin, hungry, and alone, having been left behind by her previous owner who considered her too much trouble.
Moved by compassion, Bonny convinces her loving parents to help rescue the pony, whom she names Penelope. The family takes Penelope home, providing her with a warm stable, fresh food, and most importantly, abundant love and care. Under Bonny's devoted attention, Penelope gradually transforms from a sad, neglected creature into a healthy, beautiful, and spirited pony.
As their bond deepens, Bonny learns to ride Penelope, and they discover the pony has a natural talent for jumping. Together, they practice diligently, starting with small logs and progressing to proper hurdles. Their partnership grows stronger with each training session, built on trust, patience, and mutual affection.
The story reaches its climax at the local village gymkhana, where Bonny and Penelope compete in the jumping competition. Despite facing experienced riders and larger ponies, their perfect partnership shines through. They complete a flawless round, jumping every hurdle without fault, and win the coveted gold rosette.
The tale concludes with Bonny and Penelope living happily ever after, their fame spreading throughout the countryside. However, their greatest treasure remains their unbreakable friendship, demonstrating that love, kindness, and compassion can transform lives and create the most precious bonds.

Over 450 years after his reign, Henry VIII is still the most famous and recognizable King of England, but it’s for all the wrong reasons. Though well regarded by contemporaries as a learned king and "one of the most charismatic rulers to sit on the English throne", he is best remembered today for his gluttony and multiple marriages, particularly the gruesome way in which he was widowed on more than one occasion. Naturally, that was the focus of the popular Showtime drama series centered around his life, The Tudors.
Henry VIII will probably continue to be best known for beheading some of his wives, most notably Anne Boleyn, so it is somewhat fitting that his most decisive act came as a result of a marital mishap. Sharply at odds with the Catholic Church over his attempt to dissolve his marriage with Catherine of Aragon, Henry VIII ultimately broke with the Church and established the Church of England, which forever both the religious history of England and the social hierarchy of the nation and its empire.
When Queen Elizabeth II came to the throne in 1652, many commentators heralded the beginning of her reign as the second Elizabethan age. The first one was an age when the arts, commerce and trade flourished. It was the epoch of gallantry and great, enduring literature. It was also an age of wars and military conflicts in which men were the primary drivers and women often were pawns.
Elizabeth was the last Tudor sovereign, the daughter of Henry VIII and a granddaughter of the Tudor House’s founder, the shrewd Henry VII. Elizabeth, hailed as “Good Queen Bess,” “Gloriana” and “The Virgin Queen” to this day in the public firmament, would improve upon Henry VIII’s successes and mitigate his failures, and despite her own failings would turn out to “have the heart and stomach of a king, and a king of England too”.

Can you imagine what incredible things will happen when faith in God is carried out with purpose and action? Katy and Carlos Can can! The characters in this story demonstrate how the positive attitude and encouragement of one individual can spark belief and selfless teamwork in a whole community, allowing them all to succeed, to find happiness, and to even accomplish the seemingly impossible. This story alludes to the Bible story of Moses leading the Israelites out of Egypt, a place of slavery, to the Promised Land, which is a place of abundance and joy. With faith and action, we also can make this same belief a reality.

Performed by STEVEN CREE - star of Outlander and A Discovery of Witches, amongst many leading movie credits.A collection of 28 Scottish fairy tales, perfect for children (and adults) of all ages.
Fairy Tales. Fantastic Fictions. Myths & Legends…these are what may be called “Celtic Stories,” which were handed down for centuries by word of mouth by professional story-tellers, who went about from clachan to clachan in the “Highlands and Islands,” earning a night’s shelter by giving a night’s entertainment.
These stories (which are also common to the North of Ireland), are wild and fantastic, with every flavour of Scotland throughout. They tell of heroes and heroines who set out on dangerous quests, giants and monsters, fairy folk and other mythical creatures, strange other-lands and mysterious meetings. They have a peculiar Celtic fascination of their own and they are quite distinct from the more traditional (Grim style) Fairy Tales.
These tales, in Scotland, have also a character of their own, for there is no country where the existence of Spirits and Goblins has been so implicitly believed in, up to a comparatively recent date.
Traditional Scottish fairy/folk tales, as collected and edited by Elizabeth W Grierson and originally published in 1910.
