Synopsis

Currency Changes explores the evolution of American money and monetary policy, revealing how decisions about currency standards have shaped the nation's economic trajectory. It examines the gold standard era, the establishment of the Federal Reserve System, and the eventual move away from gold, highlighting the motivations and consequences of these shifts. The book emphasizes how these policies have influenced economic stability and growth, providing crucial insights into the cyclical nature of economic booms and busts.

The book presents a chronological analysis, starting with early monetary systems and progressing through the rise and fall of the gold standard. It dissects the impacts of these systems on inflation, employment, and economic growth, offering a balanced analysis rather than advocating for any particular policy. By examining historical patterns and consequences, Currency Changes aims to equip readers with the knowledge to understand current debates about economic inequality, government intervention, and the future of the dollar.

Supported by primary source documents and economic data, this accessible work of economic history takes a long-term perspective, emphasizing the reactive nature of U.S. monetary policy. It connects to political science, sociology, and international relations, providing a comprehensive understanding of the forces shaping the U.S. economy. Ultimately, it seeks to inform readers and encourage well-reasoned conclusions about the future of American money.

The compelling inside story of how America abandoned Afghanistan.

When America retreated from Kabul amid chaos in 2021, Lieutenant General Sami Sadat, the last commander of the army of the Afghan republic, was still fighting to the end. In this firsthand account, he reveals how his troops were starved of ammunition for two years before the final pullout, while America was glad-handing the Taliban. Although Sadat spent his early career fighting alongside the CIA to track down al-Qaeda in the mountains of the Hindu Kush, it was in conventional combat—leading from the front—that he made his name. In The Last Commander, he contends that Afghanistan could have won the war if support had continued. President Biden may have ended America's longest war, but the story does not end there. Now Sadat's birth country is plunged into barbarism, where women are beaten for showing their face and his former comrades are hunted down and killed. But Sadat is planning to fight back. It will not be easy, but this riveting personal account of combat shows that if anyone can do it, he can.

Sadat's story was told in the Emmy Award–winning documentary Retrograde. Now he tells it for himself.

This is an introduction to The Tao of Human Interactions.
I decided to write this book because of the need for an effective system of managing and enhancing people's ability to communicate. Its applications span business as well as personal interactions. It can be a simple way of assessing the personalities of people around you and enabling you to better interact with them. I've played the role of an employee in middle management as well as upper management. One essential skill for any good manager is communication. It is important to be able to assess the people you are managing and also to be able to effectively deliver the correct messages. It is not only important to deliver the ideas, but it also needs to be done in a way that impacts the audience correctly. An effective manager must also assess and manage the emotional states of the people involved. I have spent a good part of my life working as an employee and in upper management and middle management. I have also consulted management for many different types of organizations in the public as well as the private sector. I have worked in specific industries such as transit, technology, public works, city government, the military, and hospitality. My approach has always been to try to create effective modes of interaction and communication between employees and middle management, as well as between management and upper management.
This book is concerned mostly with daily interactions at the employee level. The system and skills taught can be applied to any interaction in the business and personal life. Management systems are often well thought out and well structured, but quite often, they do not lend themselves to the chaotic, on-the-spot timber of human interactions. The Tao of Human Communications is a system rooted in present-moment fluid interactions. In a time very different from our own, there lived a woman that led an extraordinary life. The single most important event in her existence has stood the test of time. Her character, her actions, and her deepest thoughts and desires are still debated to this day. She has become a symbol of an era that many people today do not understand or comprehend.
Hannah Duston lived in a period when women were meant to be delicate, feeble, and more compassionate, but she defied this stereotype. She could be thought of as the ultimate mama bear defending her cubs and warding off all who would harm them. Or she could be seen as the wolf among the lambs that waits for the perfect moment to strike. Her accomplishments in life were great, and her courage stronger than most people. Yet her moral outlook on life was questionable. She was more than just a woman; she was a fighter with a keen sense of survival. She killed to avenge who she loved and never apologized for her actions, even if they were wrong.

    The History of the Peloponnesian...

The History of the Peloponnesian War is a historical account of the Peloponnesian War (431–404 BC), which was fought between the Peloponnesian League (led by Sparta) and the Delian League (led by Athens). It was written by Thucydides, an Athenian historian who also served as an Athenian general during the war. His account of the conflict is widely considered to be a classic and regarded as one of the earliest scholarly works of history. The History is divided into eight books.
Analyses of the History generally occur in one of two camps. On the one hand, some scholars such as J. B. Bury view the work as an objective and scientific piece of history. The judgment of Bury reflects this traditional interpretation of the History as "severe in its detachment, written from a purely intellectual point of view, unencumbered with platitudes and moral judgments, cold and critical."
On the other hand, in keeping with more recent interpretations that are associated with reader-response criticism, the History can be read as a piece of literature rather than an objective record of the historical events. This view is embodied in the words of W. R. Connor, who describes Thucydides as "an artist who responds to, selects and skillfully arranges his material, and develops its symbolic and emotional potential.
