The Agatha Award-winning mystery inspired by the Wright Brothers' real-life sister!

While not as famous as her older siblings Wilbur and Orville, the celebrated inventors of flight, Katharine Wright is equally inventive—especially when it comes to solving crimes—in this radiant historical mystery by USA Today bestselling author Amanda Flower.

Summer 1904. Katharine and her best friend, Margaret Goodwin Meacham, are thrilled to attend the St. Louis Exposition for the centennial celebration of the Louisiana Purchase. Not only is it a grand event, it's also the first time the young women have traveled together alone, and they are giddy with excitement—despite warnings from Katharine's family friend, poet Paul Laurence Dunbar, to be careful.

Undaunted, the girls have a lovely time—until the exposition turns from a girls' trip to a misadventure when they stumble upon a woman in distress. It's obvious that she has been attacked. Katharine and Margaret do their best to save her, but the woman dies. Yet just before her last breath, she utters the words Aeronautics Competition. Katharine's brothers, Wilbur and Orville, were asked to enter the competition with their successful 1903 flyer but declined. Katharine, of course, knows they would have won and has confidently said so to anyone who will listen.

Now, unable to get the woman's face out of her mind, Katharine can't help wondering whether her death could somehow be connected to her brothers' flying machine. Katharine convinces Margaret to join her investigation—and it's soon clear that someone will stop at nothing to get the Wrights' invention to the masses. But with Katherine on the case, they may be in for a hard fall.

A dangerous new passenger. A ship full of elite women marines. A package containing a terrible secret.
Meet Kael Sidassian: disgruntled mercenary and glorified guard of doors. Forced into a life he would never have chosen as a cyborg merc, he's lost not only his freedom but also his ability to feel anything—or appreciate the opposite sex—because of his cybernetic augmentations. That is, until last week when a renegade scientist blew the lock off his testosterone and reopened his eyes. A chance to free himself has landed in Kael's lap. He can run and hope his "employers" forget he was ever born. He just needs to get a ride off this backwater planet and deliver the strange capsule that's been foisted on him. One last mission.
Unfortunately for Kael, there's only one ride off this planet. And it's on the starship Audacity, led by famed war veteran Commander Ellen Ryu and her elite marines. Dangerous, competent, well-trained, female marines. Commander Ryu is not to be trifled with, and she doesn't trust easily. And she certainly doesn't appreciate flirting. As an enemy rises to face them both, Ryu could be Kael's savior—or the one to finally end him. Because these women are on a hidden mission to seek and destroy abuses of technology anywhere in the galaxy. Abuses like the strange capsule hidden in his cabin.
For lovers of romantic space opera with a kick of humor and a few explosions, THE EMPRESS CAPSULE is the first volume in the Audacity Saga.

One day, I laid down in my son's bed and hit record in the voice messages app on my phone. I didn't really have a plan for what I was going to say or how the story would unfold, I just spoke. I did that again and again, one chapter at a time, for a few weeks, until this epic story was done, and my boys were hooked. And now we're working on Book 2! This is a book series that was inspired by my second son, Asher. In the 4th year of his epic little life, he took a liking to all things pirates. But one day, I offered him a bit of world-shattering information: pirates are bad (evil, criminal, selfish, etc). However, instead of feeling dismayed, Asher was very quick to inform me that he wasn't a bad pirate, he was "God's Pirate"... I dialogued with him a bit about what that meant and sure enough, the little guy had formed in his head a reality where God had a pirate who sailed the seas to evangelize to other pirates and do good deeds, not bad deeds. This God's Pirate seemed like a young Apostle Paul and the Robin Hood of the seas! So, this sweet little tale was born. Alas, recording began not long after with only that premise in mind and the name Asher Robin. Even the title wasn't worked out until I hit record! Of course, you'll probably notice some audio inserts, where I thought of what to say after recording. But for the most part, every chapter, every scene, every word was thought up on the spot during those wonderful evenings where my boys were sitting with eyes wide watching me as I told this story. Sometimes they cried, sometimes they protested plot developments (as you'll hear in the recording), but all the time, their interest was on what would happen next. You'll hear me stutter, yawn, and correct myself as I go. That's all part of this authentic journey, where a little pirate begins the Greatest Treasure Hunt.
