The emergence of crime fiction was closely connected to the development of a modern legal system. In Germany there were the true crime stories August Gottlieb Meißner (1753-1804), in Britain The Newgate Calendar (1774) and in France the romanticized publications of Eugène-François Vidocq (1775-1857), the first chief of the Sûreté. China has one of the oldest bureaucracies on earth. A real life judge from the early Middle Ages became their Sherlock Holmes, and was transformed into one of the most beloved Chinese literary characters. In this audiobook Michael Henrik Wynn, the editor of the educational net radio stream Historyradio.org, retells a classic gong’an legend about the iconic Judge Bao. The original story was published by Feng Menglong (1574–1646), but this is not a direct translation.Voir livre

Disappointment, hope, struggle, love, failure and resilience are every day themes that occupy our thoughts and constitute our inner monologue. In this book, the writer takes you on a journey of self-reflection. It invites each of us to pause and reflect on the beauty, simplicity and complexity of life. To reconnect with ourselves and nature. And to rediscover ties and pure feelings with our families, friends, and the world around us... "The water gliding forming ripples on the lake. Above the cloud, blue skies, pure air... You are you... time to get happy, smile and laugh again. "... And " silence, alone with my thoughts again, inviting and familiar, like communing with an old friend... "Voir livre
Freedom House is a poetry collection that explores internal, interpersonal, and systemic freedom. In this debut full-length collection, KB Brookins’ formally diverse, music-influenced poetry explores transness, politics of the body, gentrification, sexual violence, climate change, masculinity, and afrofuturism while chronicling their transition and walking readers through different “rooms”. The speaker isn’t afraid to call themselves out while also bending time, displaying the terror of being Black/queer/trans in Texas, and more — all while using humor and craft. What does freedom look like? What can we learn from nature and our past? How do you reintroduce yourself in a world that refuses queerness? How can we use poetry as a tool in the toolbox that helps build freedom? This collection explores those questions, and manifests a world where Black, queer, and trans people get to live.Voir livre
