Beschreibung

When I met Jamie Spelling, the charming billionaire who seemed too good to be true, I thought I’d finally found my happily ever after.
He was everything I’d dreamed of—until his family made it clear I didn’t belong. His mother saw me as nothing more than an outsider, unworthy of their name. But with Jamie by my side, I tried to ignore the whispers, focusing on the connection we shared.
But the deeper I got into his world, the more I realized that I was just part of a fantasy—something to show off or use for his own gain. The demands Jamie placed on me, the expectations... it all became too much. With the help of two incredible women, Jamie's grandmother Audra and her bold friend Lottie, I started to see the truth: I deserved more.
Now, I have a choice—stay in a life that wasn’t truly mine or take a stand for my own happiness.

Step into the mind of Anders in Warm by Robert Sheckley—a hauntingly cerebral sci-fi tale that delves into the boundaries of love, perception, and identity. As a mysterious voice invades his thoughts, Anders is forced to question the very fabric of reality during what should be a simple evening with the woman he adores. Set against a backdrop of mid-century science fiction, Sheckley’s story masterfully blurs the line between the known and the unknowable, inviting readers into a surreal journey of existential unraveling. Perfect for fans of psychological science fiction and vintage speculative fiction.

Herbert George Wells was born on September 21st, 1866 at Atlas House, 46 High Street, Bromley, Kent. He was the youngest of four siblings and his family affectionately knew him as ‘Bertie’.
The first few years of his childhood were spent fairly quietly, and Wells didn’t display much literary interest until, in 1874, he accidentally broke his leg and was left to recover in bed, largely entertained by the library books his father regularly brought him. Through these Wells found he could escape the boredom and misery of his bed and convalescence by exploring the new worlds he encountered in these books.
From these humble beginnings began a career that was, after several delays, to be seen as one of the most brilliant of modern English writers.
Able to write comfortably in a number of genres he was especially applauded for his science fiction works such as The Time Machine and War of the Worlds but his forays into the social conditions of the times, with classics such as Kipps, were almost as commercially successful. His short stories are miniature masterpieces many of which bring new and incredible ideas of science fiction to the edge of present day science fact. Wells also received four nominations for the Nobel Prize in Literature
Despite a strong and lasting second marriage his affairs with other women also brought the complications of fathering other children. His writings and work against fascism, as well as the promotion of socialism, brought him into increasing doubts with and opposition to religion. His writings on what the world could be in works, such as A Modern Utopia, are thought provoking as well as being plausible, especially when viewed from the distressing times they were written in.
His diabetic condition pushed him to create what is now the largest Diabetes charity in the United Kingdom. Wells even found the time to run twice for Parliament.
It was a long, distinguished and powerfully successful career by the time he died, aged 79, on August 13th, 1946.

“Twenty SFF authors reimagine famous moments from history in this anthology of what might have been.” —Publishers Weekly History may be written by the victors, but it is not always written in stone. Often the difference between a win or a loss comes down to the smallest moment, the smallest shift. A bit of luck. This anthology of twenty alternate history short stories revisits several of those pivotal moments and imagines what might have happened if things had gone just a little bit differently. The authors have drawn upon the whole timeline of history to tell stories of Scottish kings and Russian czars who lived instead of died, of wars whose outcome hinged on one person’s single choice, and of inventions that might have changed the world. The collection is filled with familiar figures—including Billy the Kid, Vlad Dracula, and Jack the Ripper—as well as stories exploring two very different fates of the Roman Empire. The anthology also includes an alternate history from the fictional world of The Great Gatsby. Some stories look at events that have not yet happened, and a few blur the meaning of time itself. History can be surprisingly malleable if we simply look at it in a new light.A Bit of Luck is the ninth anthology edited by Lisa Mangum and published by WordFire Press. “A captivating exploration of gender dynamics, set against a background of the trying and confusing time of adolescence, when identity is in flux and everything in life is unstable and magical.” —Lydia Conklin, author of Rainbow Rainbow
A fresh, thoughtful, and always surprising short story collection from a rising young star in the world of Japanese literature.
Composed of the title novella and three short stories, People Who Talk to Stuffed Animals Are Nice sensitively explores gender, friendship, romance, love, human interaction and its absence, and how a misogynistic society limits women and men.
In the title story, Nanamori and Mugito, two university students appalled by society’s gendered roles, rebel. Refusing to interact with other people they use stuffed toys for emotional support. Unlike Nanamori and Mugito, their fellow plushie society member Shiraki does not talk to plushies. Pragmatic, she accepts the status quo that boys sometimes make nasty jokes; she believes their behavior resembles the real world.
In “Realizing Fun Things Through Water,” a young woman named Hatsuoka must contend with a mother-in-law who swears by cancer-preventing “hyper-organization” water, and a sister who writes fake news for a living. “Bath Towel Visuals” illuminates the mental cost of not just laughing along at mean humor, while “Hello, Thank You I’m Okay” follows a family’s response when their shut-in son announces he wants to throw himself a birthday party.
Written in brisk and gentle prose, Ao Omae’s stories capture the subtleties and complexities of his characters’ inner world, individuals struggling to conform in an inflexible society little tolerant of difference. These stories, sometimes comical, sometimes bittersweet, and always thought-provoking, speak to the pain and desires of all who embrace nuance, repudiate traditional sex roles, and long for a gentler and more tolerant world.
