'What's wrong with wanting to dance?'
When an orphaned young woman is taken in by some local do-gooders, she is expected to be seen and not heard.
Dazzled by a pair of beautiful shoes, she sees in them an opportunity to shine – but soon her feet betray her, taking her to places she does not wish to go.
Nancy Harris's version of The Red Shoes is a contemporary retelling of Hans Christian Andersen's extraordinary fairytale of dance, desire and destruction. It was first performed at the Gate Theatre, Dublin, in 2017 and revived in the version published here in 2024 at the Swan Theatre, Stratford-upon-Avon, by the Royal Shakespeare Company, directed by Kimberley Rampersad.

Step into a powerful journey through abuse, addiction, and redemption, told through the art of Haiku.
As a profound collection of Japanese Haiku poetry, this illuminating book transports you on a journey through the troubled life of one tormented soul. From a childhood marred by abuse and neglect to a life poisoned by addiction, Jake was plunged down a dark path from an early age by the cruelties of fate.
But in his darkest moment, while sitting in a prison cell, a ray of light appeared to him. Jake was faced with a life-defining choice: to continue down his self-destructive path, or to turn toward the hope of redemption and find the courage to face his demons.
As an inspiring and redeeming testament to the hidden potentialities within us all, A Lost Soul Found in the Darkness describes one man's journey to overcome his predicament, defy his upbringing, and forge a new life for himself beyond the pain and addiction that hounds him.
Author and recovering addict Brett C. Persson invites you on this journey, weaving Jake's story with real-life lessons and struggles drawn from his personal life.
Imbued with timeless religious motifs, this book is a must-read for anybody who loves thought-provoking Haiku collections that communicate deep truths about tragedy, hope, and salvation.

The apprenticeships are only meant to last a year - there were never any guarantees beyond that. For Ava, Liv, Mason and Trent, they're just trying to get through the day. They don't know why there's an endless stream of strangers passing through, but no-one ever tells them anything. In a couple of months they'll be kicked out anyway, and God knows what happens after that. Who's looking out for them?
Scissors is a play about family, heritage and legacy, and is part of Chris Bush's trilogy of plays about a Sheffield manufacturing family, Rock / Paper / Scissors. The three plays were first performed simultaneously with the same cast moving between three theatres in Sheffield – the Crucible, the Lyceum and the Studio – as part of Sheffield Theatres' fiftieth birthday celebrations in 2022.

"This book has shaped this piece of text [ITSELF] already—by neighbouring it (& in my mind) co-opted it, made it something other than an essay—part of SWANSEA culture—We obey these local rules slavishly—and fail to exploit them—[NOT SURE WHAT I'M ON ABOUT HERE]"Authorial violence: Swansea Automatic was published 10 years ago, around the last year of the snake to 0 acclaim except for by those who read it of course. I even did a little residency, which was more like squatting ina little shop on the High Street, Swansea but as time has passed, I came to consider this one of my few, if not only book that can boast the synthesis of my extreme late modernist tendencies and some attempt to fit into the aesthetic of popular fiction. nonetheless it doesn't pull too many punches, it's comedy, it's poetry, it's deconstructed pros,e even philosophy, textual analysis, cynghanedd, and more.Spinning Around the dirty first person narrative is the self-referential Vonegut and recycled psychogeographic of the Fiery Elephant of Johnson, Brooke-Rose, and Sinclair. An attempt to exercise the Demon of Swansea from my formative years. But actually set in North Wales just as much. Swansea is a dream city that could just as easily be London, Glasgow, Belfast, Lublin or Cairo...A second bite the cherry: a second edition is occurring, along with the audiobook and kindle edition and the album (movie!), hopefully generatinga hammer blow on the collective unconscious of our post-media universe. Swansea Automatic justifies itself to me because 2015 was also the very last gasp of the fin de siècle of the apocalyptic contemporary, where the post beats, post flaneur metanarratives where still just about alive. It's rare for me to look back, but I had an idea this one could be a cult book somehow. Help it become so and consume as such, cultishly.
