  The contemporary mystic Osho lived in a time before the internet and social media, no 24-hour news coverage existed at the time of the historic events described in this book.
  But fake news has been around for as long as there have been politicians. For this reason, Osho entrusted some eyewitnesses to record the events around him and his people. Maneesha is one of them. Her three books together form what Osho described as "the historical documentation of my work".
  She was constantly at his side, observing and making notes of his meetings with thousands of people. Witnessing it first hand, she kept a meticulous record of Osho's communes and the evolution of his work as it unfolded, both in India and in the USA.
  Osho said about her, "I have found a better recorder than Ramakrishna has ever found in Vivekananda or even Socrates has found in Plato. When we are all gone, her collections will be remembered for centuries."
  Originally published in 1988, the 2018 release of the digital book arrived in the context of increasing interest in Osho. A popular Netflix series in the same year, Wild Wild Country, exposed his former secretary's criminal activities, which led to the destruction of Osho's commune and his deportation from the US. The series provided a biased platform for two of the key people in this saga, enabling them to mislead the audience with distorted facts, and for the ringleader to be portrayed as a "feminist hero" taking on the US government and her former teacher.
  Osho: The Buddha for the Future is spoken by the author herself; it addresses misrepresentations and distortion of facts and provides an intimate, authentic firsthand account of the work of a mystic far ahead of his time and is a remarkable record of the efforts of the most powerful government in the world to silence him.

  Otto Papesch was my father. I was four years old when he died. I asked myself for years what kind of a human being he was. I have attempted to paint a picture of that handsome, charismatic, cultivated, professional chemical engineer, enthusiastic sportsman, photographer and family man by basing myself on the vast correspondence that still exists, his diary of 1917, stories about him from my mother and grandparents and the innumerable photos he took over the years. This has been an attempt to describe his prominent characteristics but also shed light on his 
  dilemmas and the contradictions in his personality and thereby to describe the important events of his short life. Would his destiny have been different had he been born a year later?

  The Rendezvous - From their pens...

  Ivan Sergeyevich Turgenev was born on 9th November 1818 in Oryol, Russia to parents from the nobility.  He and his two brothers were raised by their mother on the family estate.  Surrounded by foreign governesses he became fluent in French, German, and English.  Their father spent little time with them and this undoubtedly had an effect on him and his brothers.  When he was nine the family moved to Moscow to give their children a proper education. 
  Turgenev studied for a year at the University of Moscow and then at the University of St Petersburg to study Classics, Russian literature, and philology.  During that time his father died from kidney stone disease.  In 1838 Turgenev studied philosophy and history at the University of Berlin for 3 years before returning to St Petersburg for his master's. 
  He started his career with the Russian Civil Service and it was only in 1852 that he made his name with his short story collection, ‘A Sportsman's Sketches’, based on his observations of peasant life and nature. 
  That same year he wrote an obituary for Nikolai Gogol: "Gogol is dead!... What Russian heart is not shaken by those three words?... He is gone, that man whom we now have the right (the bitter right, given to us by death) to call great."  The St Petersburg censor banned publication but the Moscow censor allowed it.  He was dismissed but Turgenev was held responsible and imprisoned for a month, and then exiled to his country estate.  
  Along with many other Russian intellectuals Turgenev left and settled in Paris in 1854.  During this period he wrote his finest stories and four novels.  
  Alexander II ascended the Russian throne in 1855, and the political climate became more relaxed, Turgenev returned home.  
  ‘Fathers and Sons’, Turgenev's most famous and enduring novel, appeared in 1862. Its leading character is considered the first ‘Bolshevik’ in Russian literature. But the hostile reaction prompted Turgenev's decision to again leave Russia.  
  His health declined during his later years. In January 1883, an aggressive malignant tumor was removed but by then it had metastasized in his upper spinal cord, causing him intense pain in his final few months of life.  
  Ivan Turgenev died on 3rd September 1883 of a spinal abscess, a complication of the metastatic liposarcoma, in his house near Paris.  He was buried in St Petersburg.
