  Stillpoint is the moment between thoughts, when all mental chatter ceases and the clarity of absolute mind emerges from within. Stillpoint is also an audiobook of short stories and original music from Grammy-winning producer, writer, and Zenist, Barrett Martin. Building on his previous two audiobooks that also came with musical soundtracks (The Singing Earth (2017) The Way Of The Zen Cowboy (2019), Stillpoint is his third audiobook with 18 stories and 15 original compositions that provide the soundtrack to the book. Both the book and the music were written and recorded during a calendar year between 2019-2020, when Barrett and his wife lived in a remote cliff house inside a wildlife refuge overlooking the Strait of Juan de Fuca, between Washington State and British Columbia.   Venezuela’s path to independence followed the broader wave of Latin American liberation movements. Gaining independence from Spain in 1821 under the leadership of Simón Bolívar, the country initially experienced political turbulence as it transitioned from colonial rule. The 19th and early 20th centuries were marked by military dictatorships and internal conflicts, preventing the establishment of a stable government. However, the discovery of vast oil reserves in the early 20th century would drastically reshape Venezuela’s economic and political landscape.  
    
  With the discovery of oil in the 1910s, Venezuela saw rapid economic expansion, attracting foreign investment and transforming Caracas into one of the most modern cities in Latin America. By the mid-20th century, the nation was one of the wealthiest in the region, boasting a growing middle class and infrastructure that rivaled its neighbors. Yet, with prosperity came vulnerability. The economy became overwhelmingly dependent on oil revenues, leaving it exposed to fluctuations in global energy markets. Instead of using its wealth to diversify industries and strengthen institutions, successive governments spent recklessly, often prioritizing short-term political gains over long-term stability.

They survived brutal winters, eluded partisan fighters that might force Linda’s father to leave the family, and remained out of sight from Nazis and Polish police, who at one point, came only feet from their dugout.Written with historian Todd M. Mealy during a time when Holocaust deniers aim to rehabilitate the Nazi ideology and as roughly 400,000 survivors remain with us, Displaced presents Schwab’s singular voice. Her narrative will help maintain—if not bolster—Holocaust knowledge, as her story of surviving the Polish wilderness during WWII and in a Displaced Persons Camp after the war is unique from most accounts. Displaced will inspire the rest of us to confront hatred in its many forms.
