  A historical drama set in the unforgiving landscape of the Australian outback during the 1950s, the story follows the life of Katherine, an English child migrant who is consigned to an austere life on an isolated property beyond Broken Hill.   Part two brings listeners to the modern-day English Lake District before taking us back to Australia for the story's climax. Inspired by the true experiences of family and friends closest to the author, Black Bones, Red Earth is a story of hope, love, sacrifice and resilience.

During his lifetime he was known as the "Hoosier Poet" and "Children's Poet" for his dialect works and his children's poetry respectively. His poems tended to be humorous or sentimental, and of the approximately one thousand poems that Riley authored, the majority are in dialect. His famous works include "Little Orphant Annie" and "The Raggedy Man".
