Synopsis

A treasure map carved into living flesh.

A dying man’s secret.

And a pirate so cruel he would burn the world to claim it.

Cape Town (1713). Captain Simon Verbeeck has finally found peace with his beloved wife, Maria. But when a condemned murderer whispers his last secret, the location of the lost treasure of the Santa Rosa, branded into his scarred back by the infamous Devil Harrison, Simon is dragged once more into the sea’s deadly grip.

Before he can escape, Simon is seized and chained aboard the Red Swan, the floating fortress of Harrison himself. There he discovers another prisoner, a Spanish princess whose fate is bound to his own. With Harrison demanding the secret at any cost, Simon faces brutal torment meant to shatter his body and soul.

To live, he must turn despair into defiance and forge a rebellion from the ship’s dark hold. But with time running out and Harrison’s cruelty closing in, Simon must ask himself. Can a handful of broken men rise against the devil before he loses everything he loves?

For fans of Patrick O’Brian and classic swashbuckling sagas, The Pirate’s Treasure delivers a relentless storm of survival, vengeance, and the savage price of freedom.

Montague Rhodes James is cited as perhaps the greatest English writer of ghost stories, an opinion few would disagree with.
James was born on 1st August 1862 at Goodnestone Parsonage in Kent, where his father was Curate but at age 3 the family went to live at Livermere, near Bury St Edmunds in East Anglia.
From early childhood he had a passion for mediaeval books and antiques. He was educated initially as a boarder at Temple Grove School in East Sheen, west London, before gaining a scholarship to Eton and thence Cambridge where he gained a double first, becoming a distinguished linguist and mediaevalist.
Before the Great War vacations were usually spent touring Europe absorbing cultures and references for his later writing.
A man of enormous knowledge it was said he timed his breakfast egg whilst he completed the Times crossword.
Many of his elegant yet terrifying tales were created by discarding the prevailing gothic cliches and placing his characters and narrative in a realistic setting. Thereby the stories gained atmosphere and menace on a grand scale and he was famed as the originator of the antiquarian ghost story.
Although story-telling and writing these 30 or so tales was a hobby, when published their effect transformed the genre and still chill the bones in our more modern times.
James was also a medievalist scholar and translator whose work remains highly respected. He was also Provost of Eton College between 1918 and 1936.
M R James died on 12th June 1936 at Eton in Buckinghamshire. He was 73.

    Title: The Alchemist
    Author: H. P. Lovecraft
    Narrator: Jonathan Dunne
    Original Publication: 1908
    Public Domain: Yes
Series Placement: Number 36 in the Timeless Terrors series
    Description:
The Alchemist by H. P. Lovecraft is a tale of vengeance, decay, and the relentless hand of destiny. In a crumbling French château, generations of an ancient noble family are doomed to die before reaching their thirty-second year — victims, it seems, of a centuries-old curse. As the last heir wanders through the ruins of his lineage, he uncovers the truth behind the curse — and the grim figure who has carried it through time.
Written when Lovecraft was just seventeen, The Alchemist reveals the early foundations of his fascination with ancestral guilt and cosmic inevitability. The story’s gothic atmosphere, shadowed corridors, and sense of doomed inheritance foreshadow the cosmic horror that would later define his work.
Narrated by Amazon bestselling horror author Jonathan Dunne, this performance captures Lovecraft’s blend of decay and dread — the echo of old oaths, the dust of forgotten laboratories, and the whisper of a fate that will not be denied. While the text itself is in the public domain, this narration is an original performance and copyright © 2025 Jonathan Dunne.
Part of Timeless Terrors, a series devoted to resurrecting the masters of the macabre, The Alchemist endures as a reminder that even youth’s first nightmares can echo through eternity — and that some legacies are written not in ink, but in blood and time.

Claire Keegan's brilliant debut collection, Antarctica, was named a Los Angeles Times Book of the Year and earned her resounding accolades on both sides of the Atlantic. She continues her outstanding work with this new collection of quietly wrenching stories of despair and desire in modern-day Ireland.

In "The Long and Painful Death," a writer awarded a stay to work in Heinrich Böll's old cottage has her peace interrupted by an unwelcome intruder whose ulterior motives emerge as the night progresses. In the title story, a priest waits at the altar to perform a marriage—and battles his memories of a love affair that led him to question all to which he has dedicated his life. And in "Dark Horses," a man seeks solace at the bottom of a bottle as he mourns both his empty life and his lost love.

A masterful portrait of a country wrestling with its past and of individuals struggling toward their futures, Walk the Blue Fields is a breathtaking collection from "that rarest of writers—someone I will always want to read," and a resounding articulation of all the yearnings of the human heart (Irish Times).
