Synopsis

- This edition is unique;- The translation is completely original and was carried out for the Ale. Mar. SAS;- All rights reserved. The Secret Science Behind Miracles is a book by New Age author Max Freedom Long, first published in 1948. Purported to be a book about the religious beliefs and practices of the ancient Hawaiian kahunas, Long apparently never spoke to any of the ceremonial people whilst he was working in Hawaii as a teacher. After leaving the country, convinced that he would never learn these secrets, he woke one day with a revelation that the secrets were encoded into the Hawaiian language itself. He called the religious system he developed from this revelation 'Huna' (the Hawaiian word for secret), and wrote his first book in 1936 to chronicle his beliefs. However, it is worth noting, that contemporary scholars consider the system to be his invention, designed through a mixture of a variety of spiritual practices from various cultures, with roots in New Thought and Theosophy, rather than in traditional Hawaiian beliefs.

On the night of September 6, 2011, terror called at the Amish home of the Millers. Mrs. Miller opened the door to her five estranged adult sons, a daughter, and their spouses. Within moments, the men had pulled their frightened father out of bed and sheared his hair and beard. The women then turned on Mrs. Miller, yanking her prayer cap from her head and shredding it before cutting off her waist-long hair. About twenty minutes later, the attackers fled into the darkness, taking their parents' hair as a trophy.

Four similar beard-cutting attacks followed, disfiguring nine victims and generating a tsunami of media coverage.

Ten men and six women from the Bergholz community were arrested and found guilty a year later of eighty-seven felony charges involving conspiracy, lying, and obstructing justice. In a precedent-setting decision, all of the defendants were convicted of federal hate crimes.

Renegade Amish goes behind the scenes to tell the full story of the Bergholz barbers: the attacks, the investigation, the trial, and the aftermath. Donald B. Kraybill weaves a dark story in which a series of violent Amish-on-Amish attacks shattered the peace of these traditionally nonviolent people.

When Brad Meltzer's first son was born eight years ago, the bestselling writer and new father started compiling a list of heroes whose virtues and talents he wanted to share with his son: Abraham Lincoln, Rosa Parks, Jim Henson, Amelia Earhart, Muhammad Ali . . . and so many more, each one an ordinary person who was able to achieve the extraordinary. The list grew to include the fifty-two amazing people now gathered in Heroes for My Son, a book that parents and their children-sons and daughters alike-can now enjoy together as they choose heroes of their own. From the Wright Brothers, who brought extra building materials to every test flight, planning ahead for failure, to Miep Gies, who risked her life to protect Anne Frank and her family from the Nazis during World War II, Heroes for My Son brings well-known figures together with less famous ones, telling the inspiring, behind-the-scenes stories of the moment that made them great. They are a miraculous group with one thing in common: each is an example of the spectacular potential that can be found in all of us.Heroes for My Son is an unforgettable audiobook of timeless wisdom, one that families everywhere can share again and again.

Vera; or, The Nihilists is a play by Oscar Wilde. It is a melodramatic tragedy set in Russia and is loosely based on the story of Vera Zasulich. It was the first play that Wilde wrote. It was produced in the United Kingdom in 1880, and in New York in 1882, but it was not a success and folded in both cities. It is nowadays rarely revived. Growing up in Gloucester, Massachusetts, a quaint coastal town with a dark underbelly, Gail Brenner Nastasia learned early on that some people mattered and others didn’t. As the child of a heroin-addicted mother and an aunt who brokered deals with men who liked to have sex with young girls, Gail was sure she didn’t matter. As a result of keeping her secrets and those of her family, she developed a cunning and merciless pill addiction.
Despite moving away from Gloucester in her early twenties and becoming an attorney, Gail continued to use drugs while carrying the shame of her childhood. It wasn’t until she began to appreciate the value in her criminally-charged clients, those with whom she shared similar struggles, that she finally recognized her own worth. This new understanding gave her the courage to put down the drugs, fully embrace her history, and stop hiding.
A candid look at the things we inherit, THE FRUIT YOU’LL NEVER SEE reminds us of the value intrinsic in every human being and the responsibility we all have to each other and ourselves.
