Sinopse

The "Lupin Collection" by Maurice Leblanc is a richly woven tapestry of stylistic brilliance and captivating narrative that chronicles the exploits of the quintessential gentleman thief, Arsène Lupin. Set against the backdrop of early 20th-century France, Leblanc's stories blend elements of mystery, adventure, and social critique, utilizing a witty and ironic tone that aligns with the literary traditions of both the detective fiction genre and the burgeoning modernist movement of his time. The collection not only showcases Lupin's clever heists and escapades but also his propensity to outsmart adversaries, including the famed Sherlock Holmes, offering readers a fresh perspective on classic tropes of heroism and villainy. Maurice Leblanc was a prolific French author, influenced by his experiences in a rapidly changing society, marked by industrialization and the clash of tradition and modernity. His fascination with crime, justice, and moral ambiguity permeates his writing, allowing readers to explore philosophical questions within entertaining narratives. The creation of Lupin as a character arose from Leblanc's desire to challenge established norms of criminality and heroism that were prevalent in literature. The "Lupin Collection" is a must-read for lovers of classic literature and mystery alike. It not only entertains but invites readers to engage with deeper moral questions and reflections on society through the lens of one of literature's most enduring antiheroes. Dive into the world of Arsène Lupin to experience the thrilling intellect and charm that has made these tales timeless.

The guy in the dirty grey fedora looked like he might have come out of the Bellevue Morgue—off a slab. He was big and his jaw jutted over the edge of his upturned coat collar. His eyes shifted all over as if he was waiting for somebody to pick up any time.
His shoes were broken and the upper of one had gone rotten with wet. Each time he took a step it squelched. His fingers, inside his coat-pocket, were clasped round the butt of a .38 police Positive that had once been issued to a copper who got himself cited for bravery in the line of duty the day after they buried him.
He turned off Bowery at Kenmare. He was limping. He had a blister on his right foot where the shoe was broken. He hastened his steps with an effort. On Mott he saw the newsboy.
The limping guy looked around, and worked up slowly towards the boy.
The boy made a play of selling him a news-sheet. The limping guy took it. On the front page he could see his own picture, and across the top of the sheet was a banner caption—"Fremer Breaks Jail—Kills Two Guards."
    That was him!
This is a classic short story featuring Peter Cheyney’s popular detective Lemmy Caution.

Donna Nightshade’s first rule of composting: shred. Things rot quicker that way – cabbages, flowers, dead bodies…
When Donna branches out from floristry to private investigation and opens The Edge of the World Detective Agency, the last thing she expects is to have a murder fall into her lap almost immediately. Now, normally she wouldn’t be one to look a gift horse in the mouth, but there’s one significant problem with the case – all the evidence points to Donna as the murderer!
Donna may have hated the man, but she’s not the only one who had the means and motive, so she dons her deerstalker. Staying two steps ahead of the police – specifically her ex, Detective Sergeant Joe Enys – won’t be easy, but with pirate blood in her veins nothing can stop ‘deadly’ Donna from claiming her bounty and making the real culprit walk the plank!

I wish I could say that the tragedy of little Jack disappearing brought me and Nate closer together. But my husband is more distant from me now than he’s ever been. Perhaps that’s why I don’t ask him exactly where he’s going when he sets off on another business trip. Or perhaps I was too distracted by the woman moving in across the street with bouncing blonde hair and a cherubic toddler boy. He reminds me so much of the child I lost. But his mother doesn’t seem to properly watch him. And I can’t be sure, but I think Nate and this woman share a look of recognition before he leaves. The first day Nate’s away, things feel okay, even though I know when he returns we’re going to have to discuss what I found in his coat pocket. But one day turns into two and then three. I don’t want to seem like the crazy wife, but I have to call his work and ask what’s going on. And that’s when they tell me the shocking truth. Nate hasn’t worked for the company in six months. Once I’ve found this lie, it’s hard not to pick at the scab of our marriage, see what other secrets lie beneath his apparent love for me. By the end of the week, I hope I might finally learn the truth about my husband, about the woman across the street, and about what really happened to my little boy.

Intrepid American newlywed Jane Wunderly learns that tigers aren’t the only dangers lurking in 1920s India, when a murder in a popular resort town threatens to destabilize the local government and undermine the resistance movement for Indian self-rule. …

Ooty, 1927: Accompanying Mr. Redvers on an assignment to Ootycamund to quell revolutionary rumblings, Jane finds there’s more than meets the eye to India’s Queen of Hill Stations. Ooty’s lush tea plantations and tranquil gardens barely conceal its secrets—scandalous affairs, political sabotage, and a mounting anti-colonial movement. Even Redvers intends to subvert his official mission in Ooty, by arranging a series of clandestine meetings with local resistance leaders. But it’s not until the shocking death of a British national that Jane and Redvers are truly drawn into Ooty’s deepest shadows.

Jane’s suspicions that the death is more than a tragic accident are soon confirmed, but word of a murder could stoke Ooty’s simmering tensions into a full boil. Navigating corrupt local officials, festering personal vendettas, and a complicated network of bureaucratic entanglements that lead to the top tiers of government, Jane and Redvers edge closer to the truth … and its deadly consequences. Someone is willing to spill blood to protect their interests, will Jane become just another of Ooty’s darkest secrets?
