Synopsis

Faculty Evaluation Methods explores the complex process of assessing law professors, examining the various methods used to gauge teaching quality and overall effectiveness. This book addresses a critical need in legal education: ensuring that faculty evaluations are comprehensive and genuinely contribute to academic rigor and faculty development. Interestingly, while student evaluations are common, their reliability and validity are often debated, highlighting the need for more holistic approaches that incorporate peer review and administrative reviews.

The book argues for a shift from purely quantitative metrics to a more qualitative approach, emphasizing the importance of diverse perspectives in evaluation. It meticulously analyzes the strengths and weaknesses of different evaluation tools, such as student feedback, peer observations, and self-assessments, while providing practical guidance for designing effective evaluation instruments. By drawing on empirical research and case studies, the book connects to fields like educational psychology and higher education administration to support arguments for improved evaluation practices.

The book progresses logically, starting with core principles and moving through the analysis of different evaluation methods, their role in promotion and tenure, and culminating in strategies for creating fair and transparent systems. This approach offers a unique and valuable perspective for law school deans, faculty, and administrators seeking to enhance teaching quality and foster a supportive environment for faculty growth through comprehensive academic management.

Depression is something that I know well myself, both from personal experience and from the experiences of many people close to me. I remember receiving the diagnosis and the explanation that I had a chemical imbalance in my brain. I saw numerous doctors but I only seem to remember them asking me about the symptoms. As I recall, the outcome was only ever one of four things...
The doctor would tell me that I would have to start medication, the next doctor would ask me to stop medication, another would ask me to try some new medication and yet another doctor, would play around with the dosage and adjust my medication.
It got to a point where I decided that I was going to do more about healing myself than relying on my doctors and their medications. I began the long journey searching for ways that would give me the power to change myself. Taking the first steps to see someone for therapy beyond medication was a bit intimidating, perhaps mostly because of the fear of it not working and feeling totally beyond help and without hope.
I struggled with addiction, homelessness, thoughts and acts of self harm and numerous attempts on my life, It took over a decade of personal study, observation, and a handful of therapists for me to reach the understanding that I have now, which I am going to share with you below.
If you’re in a similar position to where I was, then the first thing to do is to congratulate yourself for having the courage to seek help that goes beyond chemical fixes. I hope this not only provides you with a lot more clarity, but also a better map for you and your own personal journey. It will help you heal the wounds of your past and create a much brighter future for you to look forward to.

If you're a woman living with attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), you've likely sensed your uniqueness from an early age. Growing up, societal norms, expectations, and learning environments subtly communicated which behaviors, thinking patterns, and work styles were deemed acceptable or frowned upon. These messages, pervasive in media, classrooms, and conversations, shaped your perception of self and others.
While ADHD is often associated with children, its effects can persist into adulthood, presenting distinct challenges in various aspects of life. Women, in particular, contend with societal norms that may clash with their innate traits, leading to feelings of inadequacy and self-doubt.
This guide sheds light on how ADHD manifests in adults and offers insights into recognizing its symptoms in yourself or a loved one. Key topics covered include:
Contrasts between childhood and adult ADHD
Diagnosing and assessing ADHD, along with associated risks and benefits
Social obstacles faced by women with ADHD
Exploring whether ADHD diminishes with age
    Non-medical interventions for managing symptoms
Considering the impact of sexual activity on individuals with ADHD
And a host of other related subjects
For those seeking effective strategies to navigate life with ADHD and reclaim control, this audiobook serves as an invaluable resource.

Over the last decade, scientists have discovered the importance and widespread presence in the body of a remarkable family of proteins known as prion proteins. Research links various types of prion proteins to neurodegenerative diseases such as Parkinson's and Alzheimer's—and this has fueled the search for new drugs that could halt the progression of these terrible disorders. Other discoveries have revealed the essential roles prion proteins play in memory and immunity, and the part they may have played in the beginnings of life on our planet.

Brahic, a leading researcher on diseases of the central nervous system, first describes the discovery of prions and their role in infection, beginning with early work on the animal disease scrapie and a mysterious human illness in New Guinea, apparently transmitted by cannibalism. Prion proteins were then revealed as the cause of other illnesses, from "mad cow" disease and its human counterpart, Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease, to such noninfectious brain disorders as Parkinson's and Alzheimer's. While the prion proteins responsible for diseases are definitively "bad," Brahic also explains that these abnormal prions are rare exceptions. Most of the time, prion proteins actually serve "good" and vital functions—and they may even have been present at the origin of life itself.
