Synopsis

Little more than ten years ago drones were barely used, but now more than 50 countries have them in service and they are not only changing how wars are fought but how crops are sprayed, how underwater pipelines are monitored and even how sports events are filmed. If it’s too risky to send a manned aircraft to survey the intensity of a hurricane or a combat zone, or too costly for conservation wardens to chart the movement of wildlife, drones can be used.

Used for reconnaissance work and mapping as well as launching missiles, drones can fly autonomously or be controlled by remote control. Peering into a volcano about to erupt, checking how fast a forest fire is spreading, exploring the wreck of a sunken ship, charting your enemy’s position and taking out a military target—these are just some of the uses of drones today.

From drones the size of a fingertip to drones that can carry soldiers, from single rotorcraft to multi-rotorcraft to propeller craft drones, Drones expertly examines these complex vehicles, which are not only very different from manned aircraft, but also very different from each other.

Illustrated with more than 220 colour photographs and artworks, Drones is an exciting, accessibly written work about the latest in military and civilian aviation technology.

The Dream of the Red Chamber (also known as The Story of the Stone) is one of the Four Great Classical Novels of China, and considered the greatest of them all. Almost 40 main characters and some 500 minor characters tell the fortunes of the Chia family; the book details mainly the life of Chia Pao-yü, the heir apparent, who is described as very intelligent, but also as carefree and self-indulging. The already wealthy Chia family rises to new heights when Pao-yü's elder sister becomes an imperial consort. On her first visit home, a lush garden is built, where much of the rest of the story takes place. The intrigues surrounding Pao-yü and his cousins, especially Lin Tai-yü who he loves, and Hsüeh Pao-ch'ai who he is finally tricked into marrying, make up a large part of the story. The decline of the Chia family begins with the death of the imperial consort, and when they fall into disfavour with the emperor, their mansions and the garden are eventually destroyed. The whole book has 120 chapters, only 80 of which were written by Cao Xueqin before his death in 1764. Cheng Weiyuan and Gao E claimed to have access to Cao's papers, and published what is now known as the Cheng-Gao version in 1791. Henry Bencraft Joly translated only part of the book written by Cao. Book I contains the first 24 chapters, Book II ends abruptly with chapter 56; a Book III was never published.

Join Taylor on his adventure to rescue nine endangered red wolves from extinction!
Using the ability to communicate with animals granted to him after his first encounter with Ituria's Alliance, Taylor races to save the red wolves left in his land. He joins forces with Megan, a dragon temporarily turned human, to save Brandon, a young wolf caught in a poacher's trap.
With Brandon freed, the poacher's are angry and hot on their trail. Taylor, his forest friends, unicorns, and dragons must band together to outsmart the dangerous hunters in order to rescue the endangered wolves and relocate them to safety. But will they make it in time?
Note from the Author: While Taylor's story is fantasy, extinct still means forever. Red wolves once roamed from Texas to New York and everywhere in between, but until recently the only remaining red wolves were in zoos and refuge centers. Many wildlife organizations are trying to save the red wolf as a species. However, until more humans do their part to protect red wolves, attempts to introduce them back into the wild will do little to increase their numbers. Red wolves are valuable members of our natural ecosystem and we owe it to them to make sure they have a chance to survive.
You can do your part by staying educated about endangered animals and learning more about these incredible animals!
