Beschreibung

Life on the Mississippi is a memoir by Mark Twain detailing his days as a steamboat pilot on the Mississippi River before and after the American Civil War. The book begins with a brief history of the river. It continues with anecdotes of Twain's training as a steamboat pilot, as the 'cub' of an experienced pilot. He describes, with great affection, the science of navigating the ever-changing Mississippi River. In the second half, the book describes Twain's return, many years later, to travel on a steamboat from St. Louis to New Orleans. He describes the competition from railroads, the new, large cities, and his observations on greed, gullibility, tragedy, and bad architecture. He also tells some stories that are most likely tall tales. Simultaneously published in 1883 in the U.S. and in England, it is said to be the first book composed on a typewriter. (Source: Wikipedia)

Emerie Fox's New Home Comes with Unwanted Surprises . . .
Leaky pipes, moldy basements—and a mischievous demon poltergeist who's redecorating her home, stealing her stuff, and leaving blood-soaked messages on the mirror. Sure, the messages are helpful (like reminders to buy milk or grab an umbrella), but Emerie is not the kind of person who tolerates vermin—supernatural or otherwise.
When DIY Exorcism Goes Wrong . . .
In a desperate attempt to rid herself of the supernatural nuisance, Emerie accidentally rips open a rift between worlds, unleashing the forces of Hell onto her quiet New England town. Now, with a sarcastic witch, a no-nonsense priest, and a dangerously attractive (and seriously irritated) demon named Samael by her side, Emerie has no choice but to track down and exorcise every demon before the portal to Hell consumes everything.
But as things spiral out of control, Emerie begins to wonder: is this just a simple case of demon extermination, or is something far darker—and much more personal—at play?
Perfect for fans of dark humor, supernatural adventure, and steamy demon romance, this fast-paced, laugh-out-loud paranormal romp will keep you hooked until the very end!

But it didn't quite work that way . . .

Now, as a mysterious student prodigy emerges in Ben's academy, Ben's new feline-fae friend starts behaving rather odd, and Astravar seems to be concocting a brand-new nefarious plan, Ben realizes he'll have to go on another adventure. Bertie’s friends are stepping it up. In order to de-sticky their wickets, they are asking him to impersonate themselves to country relatives, adopt a wayward infant, and even steal a marginally libelous manuscript. And to top it all off, Jeeves himself details his surreptitious plans for the young master to make an impromptu speech at a girl’s school. What’s a spirited cove to do?

The third in the Jeeves series, this collection of short stories is full of Wodehouse’s characteristic whimsy, charm, and wit.
