Beschreibung

A collection of three horror novels by Mark L'Estrange in one volume!

Dawn Of The Mummy: The small town of Clevedon has always been a place where residents look out for each other, and neighbors ensure a warm welcome is given to newcomers. But when an ancient, deadly power from thousands of years ago comes to life, can the people of the quaint village find a way to stop it, or will they succumb to the monster resurrected from its slumber?

Flesh Eaters: Thorndike is just like any other quaint Cornish village. Families have lived there for generations, and the village inn boasts the finest food and warmest welcome. Visitors and locals alike agree that old Thad Beanie makes the most delicious meat pies they have ever tasted, and like most chefs, Thad refuses to divulge the secret to his family recipe. The secret, which stretches back hundreds of years, is not how you cook the meat, but where the meat comes from.

Silver Bullet: Unsatisfied with the response from the local police force, Jenna Wilkinson arrives in the quaint market town of Huntly to search for her missing uncle, a Professor of Anthropology from a prestigious London university. Together with Detective Constable Alan Young, they set to uncover his disappearance. Unbeknownst to either of them, the town is in the grip of a powerful presence as old as time itself. As more victims follow, they'll have to put aside their beliefs and superstitions to save the town. But can they escape a fate worse than death?

"The Masque of the Red Death", originally published as "The Mask of the Red Death: A Fantasy", is an 1842 short story by American writer Edgar Allan Poe. The story follows Prince Prospero's attempts to avoid a dangerous plague, known as the Red Death, by hiding in his abbey. He, along with many other wealthy nobles, hosts a masquerade ballwithin seven rooms of the abbey, each decorated with a different color. In the midst of their revelry, a mysterious figure disguised as a Red Death victim enters and makes his way through each of the rooms. Prospero dies after confronting this stranger, whose "costume" proves to contain nothing tangible inside it; the guests also die in turn.Poe's story follows many traditions of Gothic fiction and is often analyzed as an allegory about the inevitability of death, though some critics advise against an allegorical reading. Many different interpretations have been presented, as well as attempts to identify the true nature of the titular disease. The story was first published in May 1842 in Graham's Magazineand has since been adapted in many different forms, including a 1964 film starring Vincent Price. Edgar Allan Poe is also famous for such works as ''The Raven'', "The Cask of Amontillado", "The Fall of the House of Usher", "The Masque of the Red Death", "The Pit and the Pendulum", "The Murders in the Rue Morgue", "The Tell-Tale Heart", "The Gold-Bug", "The Black Cat", "The Facts in the Case of M. Spooky. Weird. and a tale well told as Wilkie Collins does so well.
A medical man who had gone to another town for a consultation encountered a hotel landlord and heard a rather odd tale about an old man in his employ. This man would only sleep during the day because of horrible dreams that plagued him at night. The medical man’s interest was piqued believing he may be able to help this man, so he asked the landlord to tell him everything he knew about this man’s past life. Over lunch, the medical man settled in to hear the “extravagant and incredible” story from the landlord. And as he spoke, the story within a story began.
If you’re not quite a horror fan, but enjoy spooky little tales, try this one.

Hunter is just getting used to life as a vampire detective when he begins developing a remarkable new ability - one that none of his fellow agents at The Order have ever witnessed.
While he tries to control this new power, Hunter, his lover, Kai, and fellow agents from the Dallas bureau are summoned to San Francisco, where there is evidence a project to mutate ordinary citizens into human-animal hybrids has resumed.
What Hunter learns about his true self could help in tracking down those responsible - and could put his comrades in mortal jeopardy.
    Praise for West of Nowhere:
McPherson's style awakens old world vampire stories and entwines them with mystery/thriller overtones, making the resultant narrative decidedly unique... West of Nowhere weaves a wealth of supernatural fantasy components together, interlacing them with themes of belonging and regret into one intense, fast-moving story. --The BookLife Prize
Fans of The Dresden Files or The Southern Vampire Mysteries (but with more edge and less camp) will find a lot to enjoy here. It's fast, it's dark, and it leaves you with just enough unease to keep the lights on at night. (Thomas Anderson, Literary Titan)

The great author of Vanity Fair and The Luck Of Barry Lyndon was born in India in 1811. At age 5 his father died and his mother sent him back to England. His education was of the best but he himself seemed unable to apply his talents to a rigorous work ethic. However, once he harnessed his talents the works flowed in novels, articles, short stories, sketches and lectures. Sadly, his personal life was rather more difficult. After a few years of marriage his wife began to suffer from depression and over the years became detached from reality. Thackeray himself suffered from ill health later in his life and the one pursuit that kept him moving forward was that of writing. In his life time, he was placed second only to Dickens. High praise indeed.
