Synopsis

Read about how evil can turn your life around and how I triumphed over the obstacles that I was faced with time and (time) again throughout a lifetime of pure hell.

This book talks about the following topics:
Gypsy lifestyle with a gypsy mom
Life- and death-altering obstacles
Dysfunctional family background
Incest in the family
Mom and brothers are fugitives
Unwed mother raises child on her own
Physical abuse and mental abuse
A secret that had to be kept

This story had to be kept secret until it was safe to tell. It was a three-year journey in order to tell in secret. Read about how I endured the hell I was put through and learned to become a survivor in life. We were a big family of seven. Mom was tough because she had to be. At age nine, Mom told me to keep a secret. She took that secret to her grave with her. Forty-seven years later, that secret created a journey that took me right to the edge. Several professionals tell me that I am a survivor. This is the story, based on true events that took me through a lost childhood.

As the composer of some of Ireland's best-loved songs, not to mention a host of global hits, Phil Coulter has been a mainstay of Irish cultural life for decades. But this is a position that has been hard won, often in the face of extraordinary personal and political upheaval, most of which has, to date, been kept hidden from public view.
Heartfelt and wry, meditative and entertaining, Bruised, Never Broken is the story of the author's remarkable rise from modest beginnings on the streets of post-war Derry to the summit of the global charts, as a composer and confidante to a host of the era's biggest stars, such as Van Morrison, Luke Kelly, Cliff Richard and Sandie Shaw.
Poignantly, it is also a hymn to the place that made him, a city as complex and troubled throughout Ireland's middle decades as any on Earth, yet a source of constant inspiration and consolation.

The inspiring, true story of Anne Dodds
When her husband passed away after a long, trying illness, Annie Dodds was forced to sell almost everything to settle his estate.
Homeless, with little money, she wondered if it might be time to pursue a decades-old dream of living a quiet, self-sufficient life alone, off-grid. One day, when her son told her he knew of an old house on fifty acres, she knew it was time.
Feeling empowered and prepared by having read so much over the years, she loaded her belongings into the back of her pickup truck. But as she pulled into the driveway that first day, she could not imagine the challenges she would face, the obstacles she would overcome, the self-doubts she would master, and the soul-strengthening peace and contentment she would find living in a rundown old home on fifty acres of country heaven.

Short stories have always been a sort of instant access into an author’s brain, their soul and heart. A few pages can lift our lives into locations, people and experiences with a sweep of landscape, narration, feelings and emotions that is difficult to achieve elsewhere.

In this series we try to offer up tried and trusted ‘Top Tens’ across many different themes and authors. But any anthology will immediately throw up the questions – Why that story? Why that author?

The theme itself will form the boundaries for our stories which range from well-known classics, newly told, to stories that modern times have overlooked but perfectly exemplify the theme. Throughout the volume our authors whether of instant recognition or new to you are all leviathans of literature.

Some you may disagree with but they will get you thinking; about our choices and about those you would have made. If this volume takes you on a path to discover more of these miniature masterpieces then we have all gained something.

In the vast Empire of the Russians literature was a way to exchange ideas, values and cultures. Yet each author, each story, each character is an individual example of a journey that, story by story, has transformed the glimmering arc of its literature.
