Commune with nature on your own and form a deeper, stronger connection with the stars, the sun, and the moon. Learn to heal yourself. Gain peace from stress, and find new ways to cope with the turmoil of modern life. Talk to trees and heal with herbs. Learn how to follow patterns of the stars and the cycles of the sun and moon and see into the future.  “Grant yourself the time and space to explore the world of witchcraft with patience and curiosity, following the threads of folk knowledge, mythology, and nature back to our pagan roots. If you can devote yourself to these studies, I promise you this: a lifetime of magic awaits.” —from the foreword by Celeste Larsen, author of Heal the Witch Wound   An invaluable guide for the solitary witch, Marian Green’s opus, A Witch Alone, is filled with lessons and spells, including information about herbal magic, moon magic, solar cycles, and methods for recovering the “Old Ways” in your daily life. Americans lived in a different reality in 1980: Vermont was the only state that let residents carry a concealed firearm without a permit. Twenty-four states now allow this—and numerous other gun laws have fallen by the wayside. When police were accused of wrongdoing, the default answer from society's arbiters was: "The police wouldn't lie." Editors steered clear of stories about rape and sexual violence. The word "homeless" wasn't in common use. The fabric of the middle class had not yet begun fraying.

America of the 2020s is living with cultural shapeshifting rooted in the 1980s. American Doom Loop chronicles the first part of that moving picture, then brings the story forward.

As a newspaper journalist, Dale Maharidge had a front-row seat to this decade. He was in the Philippines during the last days of Dictator Ferdinand Marcos, witnessing the US lose a critical piece of its empire dating to the Spanish–American War; he embedded with a group that was a precursor to the Oath Keepers; and he investigated police, who kept trying to get him fired.

Through it all, Maharidge gained an invaluable view of a complicated decade that offers insight into our society today.

Sociology is the systematic study of society, human behavior, and social interactions. It explores how individuals relate to one another and how social structures, such as institutions, norms, and values, shape these interactions. The origins of sociology can be traced back to the early 19th century when scholars began to analyze the effects of rapid social changes brought about by industrialization, urbanization, and political revolutions. Auguste Comte, a French philosopher, is often credited with founding sociology and introducing the idea that societies evolve through distinct stages of development, which he described as the theological, metaphysical, and scientific stages. Comte emphasized the importance of using scientific methods to study society, laying the groundwork for the discipline's emergence as a formal field of study.
Sociology seeks to understand the underlying patterns and structures that govern social life. It examines topics such as social roles, institutions, class structures, race, gender, and family dynamics. Sociologists use various methods to study society, including surveys, interviews, participant observation, and statistical analysis. These methods allow them to identify trends, uncover social inequalities, and explain how social change occurs. For example, Emile Durkheim, one of the early pioneers of sociology, studied the causes of suicide and concluded that social integration and regulation significantly influence individuals' behavior. His work demonstrated that even personal actions have social underpinnings, highlighting the importance of understanding the broader social context.

This book is an exploration of intentional listening as an essential skill for coaches. It introduces the Head, Heart, and Hands Listening model as a vital tool to amplify effective listening in coaching practice.

Accessible and applicable, the book explores the three listening modalities of Head, Heart, and Hands as active, though largely unconscious, lenses that inform the potency of our listening. Dakin-Neal argues that once coaches identify "how" they listen, they can assist their clients in more targeted ways to positively impact their personal and professional lives. Chapters are divided into the three listening modalities, Head, Heart, and Hands, and are filled with case studies, stories, reflective questions, and exercises from the author's experience to help coaches strengthen their listening skills. The book also includes a comprehensive listening assessment for coaches to use in practice.

This book is essential for coaches in practice and in training as well as organizational psychologists, HR professionals, and those working within corporations.

History placed Johann Gottlieb Fichte (1762-1814) between two giants of German philosophy – Immanuel Kant (1724-1804) and Georg Hegel (1770-1831) – so it was not surprising that his light may have dimmed as the 19th century developed. It didn’t help that he also was regarded as one of the proponents of German nationalism, a legacy that spilled over into the darker times of the 20th century.
However, his singular character and his role in developing, (following Kant), transcendental idealism has resulted in a re-evaluation in recent years. His views on ethics, a practical approach towards the matter of free will, and the value he placed on culture, the intellect and the self, informed his output.
The three works in this collection, Volume 1, offer a steady insight into Fichte’s thought and personality. Many of his key works emerged in the form of lectures rather than books, and as such are eminently accessible: Fichte was certainly a popular speaker. When at the University of Jena (1794-1799) he drew large audiences for the five lectures which comprise The Vocation of the Scholar (1794). The main principles of the Enlightenment are examined here, in terms of culture, education, morality. As he writes in his Preface: ‘That the Ideal cannot be manifested in the Actual world, we know as well as they do, perhaps better. All we maintain is, that the Actual must be judged by the Ideal, and modified in accordance with it by those who feel themselves capable of such a task.’
In 1799, he was dismissed from his post at Jena following accusations of atheism, and the last two works in this collection appeared while he was at the University of Berlin. The Nature of the Scholar and its Manifestations dates from 1806 and comprises 10 lectures which develop ideas initially presented in The Vocation of the Scholar. The final work here, The Vocation of Man, appeared in book form rather than as a series of lectures and is regarded as one of his most important. In it, Fichte sets out to examine ‘the true purpose of man’.
It is divided into three sections, Doubt, Knowledge, Faith. He addresses issues of free will and cause and effect, natural existence and perceived reality; and, finally, the ‘guiding’ matter of faith and God.
