Synopsis

Physics Education for Students: An Interdisciplinary Approach is a compilation of reviews that highlight new approaches and trends in teaching and learning specific topics on physics to high school and university students. The reviews cover different areas of physics education (laboratory activities, mathematics, philosophy and history) and the ways that learning outcomes can be improved. These distinguished areas can generate complexities and difficulties for students in learning some concepts since the same topics are often presented while following approaches that do not highlight the existing correlations among the involved disciplines. The reviewers discuss an integrated framework for readers with the objective to promote the inclusion of specific laboratory activities and mathematics contents for physics courses addressed to university students, with evidence of the importance of combining a historical and philosophical approach as well. Specific topics in this book include the benefits of active learning in physics education, dialogic best practices in science education, research-based proposals on optical spectroscopy in secondary schools, didactic principles and e-learning in physics and expansive framing in physics laboratories.Physics Education for Students: An Interdisciplinary Approach, with its selection of expert reviews is an interesting read for academics and researchers involved in STEM education, at the school or college level.

One of the most dramatic periods in world history is the age of Europe's discovery of the world from Columbus and da Gama in the late fifteenth century to the voyages of James Cook in the eighteenth century. The extent of the changes can be seen by comparing the pre-Columbian maps, which showed no knowledge of either the Americas or the Pacific, with those of 1800, which in terms of projection, scale, and content approximate today's maps. In this course, the most important discovery voyages, the individual characteristics of their commanders, and the endurance of their crews will be described. Interspersed with accounts of individual voyages will be lectures that explain the more general and technical aspects of the voyages: improvements in ship design and navigation, constraints of wind and current, living conditions on board ship, and problems of health and discipline. Special attention will be paid to the controversies that developed from some of these voyages. By the end of the course, we will come to understand some of the reasons men went to sea, the perils they faced, and the successes achieved and failures experienced.

“Come on, sis,” Cathy said. “It was all spontaneous, you know? It really has been quite a long time since I last seen your husband.”
“I agree it has. But you know he is just coming back from work, don’t you? Why don’t you let him at least come into the house before you start catching up on whatever it is you want to catch up on?”
Cathy turned to Morgan with a smile. “Your wife is right. Sorry Morgan.”
Morgan came into the house and hugged his wife. There was no doubt that there was a big difference. Unlike when he had held onto Cathy’s supple body, he was not having any lewd and naughty thoughts going on in his head.
He was still thinking of Cathy’s body when his wife broke away from him. She regarded him with a frown. “What is wrong with you?”
He blinked. “Me? I don’t understand.”
    “You don’t understand?”
    “No. Seriously, I don’t.”

    • Without self-knowledge we cannot go beyond the self-projected illusions of the

    • It’s only in relationship that one can know oneself as one is.
    • A mind that is filled with beliefs, dogmas, assertions and quotations is an un

    • Can we look at ourselves without beliefs?
