  The Cristero War, also known as the Cristero Rebellion or La Cristiada [la kistjaa], was a widespread and deeply significant conflict that unfolded in central and western Mexico during the late 1920s. It was primarily driven by a violent response to the secularist and anti-clerical provisions of the 1917 Mexican Constitution, which sought to curtail the influence of the Catholic Church over the country's political and social life. The Constitution introduced sweeping reforms, including the restriction of church property rights and the severe limitations placed on the clergy’s ability to engage in public life. 
  This growing tension reached a boiling point when President Plutarco Elías Calles, who came into power in 1924, took decisive action to enforce these secular provisions. In 1926, Calles issued an executive order to aggressively implement Article 130 of the 1917 Constitution, known as the Calles Law. This law effectively outlawed many aspects of Catholicism in Mexico, including the practice of the religion in public spaces, the establishment of religious orders, and the public involvement of the clergy in education and politics. Calles' aim was to reduce the power of the Catholic Church, which had long been one of the most influential institutions in Mexican society, and to curb what he perceived as an obstacle to modernization and national unity.

  In today’s world, our perception fundamentally shapes our reality. This explains why two people can have entirely different interpretations of the same event. The meaning we assign to events stems from our beliefs and emotions. So, can altering our perception actually change our world? If so, how can this be achieved? And if it's possible, how can we mold our reality to create a better one? 
    
  What we see defines what we believe, and what we believe dictates what we consider true. Our sense of truth then becomes our reality. Thus, our perception molds our reality. Although we share the same world, we each focus on our own perceived truths. Even though everyone has eyes, each person views the world in a unique way. It’s easy to find what we’re looking for, but harder to notice what we’re not searching for. For example, one person might see a glass as half-full while another sees it as half-empty. 
    
  “A pessimist sees the trouble in every opportunity; an optimist sees the chance in every trouble.” 
    
  Perception Is Relative 
    
  There are numerous examples of how perception influences our reality. When we buy a new white car, we suddenly notice that color and model everywhere. If we like or dislike a song, it seems to play frequently. When someone points out a particular mannerism or nervous tic in another person, it seems to become more noticeable afterward.

  The Reign of terror was a period of considerable political and social change in France that started in 1789 with the starting of the Estates General and ended in the month of November 1799 with the development of the French Consulate. Tons of its ideas are now regarded important structures of liberal democracy, while terms like Liberté, égalité, and fraternité resurfaced in following revolts, which includes as the 1917 Russian Revolution, and stimulated efforts to eliminate oppression and attain universal suffrage. 
  Its values and organizations continue to impact French politics today. 
  The causes are commonly accepted to be a mix of social, political, and financial concerns that the existing routine was not able to resolve. 
  The Estates-General were assembled in May 1789 in reaction to considerable social discontent, and in the month of June they were become a National Assembly. The Assembly passed some remarkable reforms, and that includes the removal of feudalism, governmental control of the Catholic Church, and the growth of ballot rights.

  By 2050, Africa's population is projected to reach approximately 2.5 billion people. By the end of the 21st century, the African continent will account for 40.6 per cent of the world's working age population, underscoring an urgent need to create at least 20 million new jobs annually. These demographic transformations present both opportunities and challenges for EU-Africa cooperation under both the Mattei Plan and Global Gateway frameworks. For Africa in particular, the digital sector has the potential to drive innovation, spur economic growth, empower rural communities, foster continental integration and accelerate progress towards achieving Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and Agenda 2063. At the same time, Africa's digital transformation is sparking discussion over asymmetric power relations that mirror past historical injustices. With majority of digital infrastructure, platforms and services originating either in China, North America and to a lesser extent Western Europe, questions around technological dependency, lack of transparency, data sovereignty and the risks of perpetuating "digital colonialism" have come to the fore. The EU-Africa digital partnership under Mattei Plan and Global Gateway frameworks can serve as catalysts for strengthening African agency by enhancing digital governance frameworks, investing in targeted capacity-building programmes and mobilising resources to bridge infrastructure and financing gaps.
  This edited volume aims to provide rigorous analysis of the main challenges and opportunities for digital cooperation and partnership between the EU and Africa through two key European policy instruments, the EU Global Gateway and Italy's Mattei Plan. The volume situations EU-Africa digital partnership within a broader digital landscape increasingly being shaped by geopolitical and geo-economic rivalry among global powers enabling informed analysis of the EU-Africa partnership on the global geopolitical chessboard. The analysis focuses on four macro-themes: (i) digital governance frameworks and policy, (ii) technological control and data sovereignty, (iii) digital infrastructure gaps, and (iv) opportunities and challenges for Italy-EU-Africa digital partnership going into the future. Furthermore, the book delves into the current state of global digital landscape from the perspectives of both Africans and Europeans and contains nuanced and targeted recommendations for strengthening the EU-Africa digital partnership.
