Beschreibung

"Lesser Known Paths" unveils a fascinating exploration of overlooked historical trade routes and migration patterns that shaped human civilization alongside more famous networks like the Silk Road.

This comprehensive study examines three crucial but understudied pathways: the ancient maritime routes of the Indian Ocean, Central Asian grassland corridors, and trans-Saharan networks. Through a unique combination of archaeological findings, satellite imagery, and newly translated historical documents, the book reveals how these alternative routes were equally influential in facilitating cultural exchange and technological advancement across civilizations.

The book's innovative approach combines traditional historical analysis with modern scientific methods, including genetic studies, linguistic analysis, and climatological data. Spanning from 3000 BCE to 1500 CE, it focuses particularly on underrepresented regions and demonstrates how these lesser-known paths connected diverse cultures and economies.

The research challenges conventional narratives about historical connectivity by presenting compelling evidence from remote archaeological sites and previously undiscovered trade documents. Structured in three main sections, the work progresses from establishing methodological frameworks to examining specific case studies, such as Southeast Asian archipelago networks and Caucasus mountain passages, before synthesizing these findings to demonstrate their collective impact on world history.

This interdisciplinary approach, combining archaeology, climatology, linguistics, and geography, offers readers a fresh perspective on how alternative historical networks contributed to the development of human civilization, while providing relevant insights for understanding modern global connectivity patterns.

Ethiopia is an ancient and thought-provoking land. How much do you know about one of the earliest nations to accept Christianity?
Ethiopia has a long history. It boasts one of the longest-running continuous civilizations on the planet; even the origins of humanity have been traced back to Ethiopia. Ethiopian kingdoms date back to the days of the Bible, and mentions of Ethiopian monarchs can be found all throughout the historical record.
Ethiopians rubbed shoulders with Egyptians, Romans, Ottomans, Portuguese, and a whole host of other nations and empires throughout the centuries. Throughout all of these encounters, Ethiopia has strived to be strong and independent. And on all those occasions, Ethiopian determination and perhaps a little luck have made sure these aspirations were achieved.
For example, in the early 1500s, when the flames of Ethiopian civilization were nearly extinguished by the armies of a neighboring sultanate, a joint Ethiopian/Portuguese army (led by none other than Vasco da Gama’s son, Christopher da Gama) came together just in time to heroically fight off the invaders and ensure Ethiopia’s survival.
This was just one example of many in which Ethiopians faced a tremendous obstacle yet were able to overcome it right when all hope seemed lost. The story of Ethiopia is an inspiring one. And this book will take you through the astonishing history of this ancient and thought-provoking land in its entirety.

Many countries, communities, and social actors around the world are struggling to cope with the impacts of climate change. Adapting to climate change in a sustainable manner involves a huge collective effort and is barely happening. How can sustainable climate change adaptation become plausible? The Hamburg Climate Futures Outlook 2024 provides a unique systematic and global assessment of the context conditions for sustainable climate change adaptation, evaluating the social dynamics of deep decarbonization and the physical dynamics in regional climate variability and extremes. Through nine case studies across the globe, the assessment provides insights into key barriers and opportunities for sustainable climate change adaptation.

"Human nature is the expression of all beings; a human being is the miniature of the universe."
The author devoted more than 20 years to this book, proving a philosophical principle and making several critical comments on different theories regarding social problems we are now facing: what is the natural foundation of human subsistence or human phenomena? Why is the progression of civilization and its social development inevitably moving toward an endangering destination? And why are the mental attributes and knowledge system ultimately proved unhelpful or even appear negative? In sum, it rings the alarm through an insightful mode of ultimate investigation for the self-important humanity, and it also foresees the coming of the cloud for the described bright future.
Compared with Newton's theory of gravity, Einstein's theory of relativity applies to a more extensive range of space; similarly, Dongyue's theory of weakening compensation applies to a more comprehensive range of human cognition compared with Darwin's theory of biological evolution. In other words, Einstein's theory of relativity is a massive expansion of Newton's theory of gravitation, and Dongyue's theory of weakening compensation is also a tremendous expansion of Darwin's theory of biological evolution. This philosophical monograph is in a demonstrative method with a unique style of language that is quite different from other works in this field, which makes the reading a challenge to many.

Before the Vietnam War, most Americans would have been hard pressed to locate Vietnam on a map. South Vietnamese President Diệm’s regime was extremely unpopular, and war broke out between Communist North Vietnam and South Vietnam around the end of the 1950s. Kennedy’s administration tried to prop up the South Vietnamese with training and assistance, but the South Vietnamese military was feeble. A month before his death, Kennedy signed a presidential directive withdrawing 1,000 American personnel, but shortly after Kennedy’s assassination, new President Lyndon B. Johnson reversed course, instead opting to expand American assistance to South Vietnam.
Operation Speedy Express was a highly controversial military operation carried out by the U.S. Army supported by the Army of South Vietnam (ARVN) as well as regional and popular forces during the Vietnam War. It lasted from December 1968 until May 1969 and took place in the Mekong Delta's Kien Hoa and Vinh Binh provinces. The operation was a part of U.S. Army “pacification” efforts toward the Viet Cong, as American forces sought to interdict Viet Cong supply and communication lines from Cambodia and deny them the use of operational bases. Formally, the operation involved 8,000 U.S. soldiers and resulted in 242 American lives lost compared to 10,899 Viet Cong and People’s Army of Vietnam (PAVN) killed, according to Department of Defense records. Operation Speedy Express was considered successful by U.S. standards, as determined by the primary metric of body counts. However, while the number of Vietnamese dead, including civilians, is unknown, it is assumed to surpass 5,000, and the high number of casualties was attributed to the indiscriminate use of firepower, which included air and artillery strikes in densely populated areas.

The book is intended to describe America’s longing for a more perfect union and its frustration in achieving the metaphorical level playing field. Dennis believes that although change may not happen tomorrow, but sometime in the future, science and technology will definitely play an important role in allowing the playing field to level itself.
