Synopsis

"Iranian Regime" explores the dramatic transformation of Iran from a modernizing monarchy to a theocratic state in 1979, a pivotal moment that continues to shape global politics. The book delves into the complex factors that led to the Iranian Revolution, examining the fall of Shah Pahlavi, the rise of Ayatollah Khomeini, and the establishment of the Islamic Republic. It highlights the unique confluence of events that allowed Khomeini to seize power, arguing that his ascent was not inevitable but the result of strategic maneuvering and sociopolitical circumstances.

Central to the book's narrative is the often-overlooked experience of religious minorities, particularly Christians, under the new regime. This focus provides a distinctive lens through which to understand the broader implications of Iran's political transformation. The author draws on a wide range of primary and secondary sources, including declassified documents and firsthand accounts, to present a comprehensive analysis of this tumultuous period.

Structured chronologically, the book progresses from the final days of the Shah's rule through Khomeini's return and the consolidation of the Islamic Republic. It contextualizes these events within the Cold War era, illustrating how global dynamics influenced the revolution and its aftermath.

By blending scholarly rigor with engaging storytelling, "Iranian Regime" offers valuable insights for academics, policymakers, and general readers seeking to understand Iran's recent history and its enduring impact on current geopolitics.

Did you know that Brazil is the largest coffee producer in the world? Or that Brazil got its name from a tree?
Brazil has a rich and complicated history that few outside South America know about. It leads the world in some of the most profitable exports (gold, sugar, oil, and coffee,) yet Brazil has one of the largest wealth disparities in the world and is known for crime and poverty. It is also an ethnically diverse country with a rich, distinct nationality and culture, yet the Brazilians seem to be at odds with each other. Would you be surprised to learn that its history has something to do with that?
Brazil has fertile soil perfect for agriculture, as well as gold and other profitable resources, yet at the beginning of colonization, no European nation wanted to colonize it. We will explore Brazil’s prehistory and why the colonists were so hesitant to settle there. Once they did, though, Brazil’s history was forever changed.
While Brazil is one of the most recognized South American countries, its history is mostly unknown to the general public. This is partly because its landscape is incapable of preserving historical artifacts and partly because its history tends to be overshadowed by other countries in the Western Hemisphere. This audiobook will bring Brazil’s history alive, giving you insight into its rich past and a peek at what Brazil has been dealing with recently.
In this audiobook, you will learn about the following: The origins of Brazil’s first people The diets, lifestyles, and beliefs of Brazil’s native population The Europeans’ disinterest in Brazil Portugal’s convoluted colonization of Brazil Brazil’s sugar and coffee industries The church and its conversion of the native population

In May 1982, Captain Roger Field, The Blues and Royals, attached to HQ 5th Infantry Brigade, sailed on the Queen Elizabeth 2 as part of the second wave to liberate the Falkland Islands. Surprised by what he saw at Brigade HQ, he started writing a diary.
His journey took him to Fitzroy as the Argentinean aircraft struck the landing ships Sir Galahad and Sir Tristram. A chance meeting led him to fighting alongside the Commanding Officer of 2 Para at the Battle of Wireless Ridge. When the commander of one of the four attached armoured cars of The Blues and Royals was knocked out part way through the battle, Roger took command of that Scimitar. Next day his Scimitar was at the very tip of the spear as 2 Para and The Blues and Royals led the victorious charge into Port Stanley.
‘Revisionist’ in places and always refreshingly candid, this account is unique as it describes the War from the viewpoint of a staff officer, infanteer and armoured vehicle commander. A gripping listen.

    Sleep and dreams

What if dreams were not a mystical enigma, but a living laboratory of the mind? In “Sleep and Dreams,” Alfred Maury, a pioneer of experimental psychology in the 19th century, conducts a fascinating investigation into what happens when consciousness falters: the genesis of dreams, the sequencing of images, the role of memory, hypnagogic illusions, nightmares, sleepwalking, ecstasy, hypnotism, intoxication, delirium… Nothing is left to chance. An indefatigable observer of himself, Maury multiplies experiments and precise accounts (induced awakenings, sensory stimuli during sleep, correspondences between real sensations and dream scenes) to dismantle the mechanics of dreaming and its close links with the body, the senses, and memory. As the pages unfold, the boundaries blur between dream, madness, and genius: the mind associates through assonance, amplifies impressions, creates believable hallucinations, and sometimes reveals forgotten memories. Clear, methodical, and often surprising, this classic brings psychology, physiology, and captivating testimonies into dialogue. For anyone who questions imagination, consciousness, or the mystery of the night, it is a foundational, bold, and strikingly modern work — to be heard as a scientific and intimate adventure where the dream learns to speak.
