  “Scythe” by Neal Shusterman is set in a future society where immortality has been achieved, eliminating natural death. To control the population, a group called the Scythedom is responsible for "gleaning" people, deciding who lives and who dies. The story follows two teenagers, Citra and Rowan, who are chosen to become apprentices to a scythe. As they learn the moral complexities of gleaning, they are faced with ethical dilemmas and intense competition. The novel explores themes of mortality, power, ethics, and the cost of immortality, examining how the human condition is tested in a world without natural death.
