Beschreibung

Azovstal is not a place. It is a total siege.A steel mill transformed into an underground city, a makeshift hospital, a refuge, and a trap. Above, the bombings; below, life reduced to basic choices: water, light, courage. And time, which stops flowing and begins to resist.Heavy Metals recounts the siege of the Azovstal steelworks through the eyes of those who remain: soldiers and civilians, the wounded and survivors, men trying to maintain a semblance of humanity within this industrial hell. Death can come in a second, yet what is truly frightening is the other side of war: hunger, filth, corpses, deportation, waiting.Although a work of fiction, the novel is based on real events and meticulous research: from the photographic testimonies of Dmytro Kozatsky to war reports and communications released during the siege. The result is a dry and visionary narrative, where steel, lead, and darkness become emotional matter: metals that weigh on the flesh and the conscience.A book for those seeking the harsh truth, for those who want to understand what remains of man when everything else collapses.

Mary Cholmondeley was born in Hodnet near Market Drayton in Shropshire on June 8th 1859, the
third of eight children. Her father was appointed rector in 1874 in succession to his father. Much of
the first 30 years of her life was taken up with helping her sickly mother run the household and her
father with parish work, and she herself suffered with asthma.

Mary began writing with in her teens. She wrote in her journal in 1877, "What a pleasure and
interest it would be to me in life to write books. I must strike out a line of some kind, and if I do not
marry (for at best that is hardly likely, as I possess neither beauty nor charms) I should want some
definite occupation, besides the home duties."

Mary began by publishing some stories in The Graphic and her first novel ‘The Danvers Jewels’ a
detective story followed in 1887. It was followed by Sir Charles Danvers (1889), Diana Tempest
    (1893).

After her father retired in 1896, she moved with him and her sister Diana to Condover Hall before
selling it to move to Albert Gate Mansions in Knightsbridge, London.

Mary wrote the best seller ‘Red Pottage’ in 1899. It satirised religious hypocrisy and the conceit of
country life. It was denounced as immoral. It also explored female sexuality.

During the war she did clerical work in the Carlton House Terrace Hospital. The sisters moved in
1919 to 4 Argyll Road, Kensington, where Mary died, unmarried, on 15th July 1925.

The next gripping, atmospheric horror novel from NYT bestselling author Christopher Golden, set in a deteriorated, half-sunken freighter ship off the coast of Galveston, TX.Charlie Book and Ruby Cahill have history. After their love ended in heartbreak, they never expected to see each other again, but when terror enters Ruby’s life, Charlie Book is the only safe harbor she can believe in.In his work for the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department, Book has been living aboard and studying the Christabel, a 19th century freighter that lies half-sunken in Gulf waters, just off the shore of Galveston. Over many years, a massive forest of mangrove trees has grown up through the deck of the ship, creating a startlingly beautiful enigma Book calls the Floating Forest, full of birds, crabs, and snakes. Though a powerful storm churns through the Gulf, Book intends to sleep on board as usual. But when he arrives at the dock, preparing to motor out to the Christabel, he’s stunned to find Ruby there waiting for him. And Ruby’s not alone. With her are a mysterious, terrified woman named Johanna and an infant child. They need Book to hide them safely aboard the Christabel while they're on the run, only it isn’t the police who are after them. It’s the coven of witches Johanna has fled, stealing away the helpless infant for whom they had hideous plans…or so Johanna claims. It’s lunacy. Book wants nothing to do with it. But after the way he and Ruby ended things, and the unspoken pain between them, he can’t refuse. Yet even as he brings them out to the ruined ship and its floating forest, back in Galveston there are shadowed figures out in the storm, sniffing the air like bloodhounds. And despite the worsening wind and rain, the night birds are flying, scouring the coastline as if searching for their prey.
