Synopsis

Azovstal is not a place. It is a total siege.A steel mill transformed into an underground city, a makeshift hospital, a refuge, and a trap. Above, the bombings; below, life reduced to basic choices: water, light, courage. And time, which stops flowing and begins to resist.Heavy Metals recounts the siege of the Azovstal steelworks through the eyes of those who remain: soldiers and civilians, the wounded and survivors, men trying to maintain a semblance of humanity within this industrial hell. Death can come in a second, yet what is truly frightening is the other side of war: hunger, filth, corpses, deportation, waiting.Although a work of fiction, the novel is based on real events and meticulous research: from the photographic testimonies of Dmytro Kozatsky to war reports and communications released during the siege. The result is a dry and visionary narrative, where steel, lead, and darkness become emotional matter: metals that weigh on the flesh and the conscience.A book for those seeking the harsh truth, for those who want to understand what remains of man when everything else collapses.

François-Anatole Thibault was born on the 16th April 1844 in Paris, France, the son of a bookseller and bibliophile.

He studied at the Collège Stanislas, a private Catholic school, and after graduating joined his father in the bookstore, which specialised in works on the French Revolution. Several years later he secured a position as cataloguer at Bacheline-Deflorenne and at Lemerre before being appointed librarian for the French Senate in 1876.

His literary career had begun as a journalist and as a poet before publishing his novel ‘Le Crime de Sylvestre Bonnard’ in 1881. Praised for its elegant prose, it won him a prestigious prize from the Académie Française, which later elected him to its storied ranks.

His works were profound and thoughtful and often couched in surreal and outlandish expressions; whether penguins baptized by a near-blind Abbott transformed themselves into humans or of a guardian angel who becomes an atheist, his stories turned established thought into startling literature.

His short stories run in the same vein. The premise may seem plausible but his distinctive style turns them into an individual viewpoint which invokes both discussion and admiration.

In his private life his relationships with women were often turbulent. A Socialist, he was a fervent supporter of the Russian Revolution and the early years of the French Communist party.

He was awarded the Nobel Prize in 1921 but the following year his entire canon of works was placed on the prohibited list of the Catholic Church, which he thought of as a credit to his name.

Anatole France died on the 12th October 1924 in Tours. He was 80.

Samhain Witch is a Short Story from The Hawthorne University Witch Series.
I absolutely adore Halloween. I love the vibrant fall colors and the fun and revelry. And Samhain (Sa-win) is a major holiday for witches because it represents our new year. It’s the time when the spirit world meets the living.
So I wanted to throw a Halloween party for my students at Hawthorne University. Since the Billington frat house wasn’t available, I planned a party at my place. But as Maddie sat smiling in our circle, planning pumpkin carvings and costume contests, a visitor from my teacher’s past appeared, in tears, beside our bonfire. She said she had been terrorized by a haunted house, and she was looking for the Hawthorne Witch.
And as I discovered more about her haunting, I found that, this time, I was up against more than witches competing for my power or blaspheming with left-sided magic. This was a primal evil. I had met the Samhain Witch.
Cadence Hawthorne returns in this stand-alone short story, which takes place after The Hawthorne Witch (Book III). It first appeared exclusively as a free ebook for subscribers to the author's monthly newsletter and on A.L. Hawke's website.
Content Warning: Samhain Witch contains profanity, sex, adult situations and, of course, witchcraft.

What if the greatest threat to society wasn’t ignorance—but cleverness without conscience?
Clouds by Aristophanes is a scathing comedic masterpiece that lampoons Socratic philosophy and the Athenian obsession with rhetorical trickery. This modern translation revives the wit, rhythm, and political punch of Aristophanes’ classic play, in which a debt-ridden father seeks to cheat his way to freedom by mastering the art of deceit—under the tutelage of a ridiculous, cloud-dwelling Socrates.
    What you’ll discover inside:
    •	A satirical comedy skewering philosophy, education, and generational conflict
    •	A wildly irreverent portrait of Socrates and his absurd “Thinkery”
    •	A sharp critique of sophistry, relativism, and rhetorical manipulation
    •	A lively and accessible modern translation of Aristophanes’ classic
Join the riotous drama where logic tangles, thunder rumbles, and the line between wisdom and foolishness vanishes in the clouds.

First published in 1925, set 'one Wednesday in mid-June', Mrs Dalloway charts the lives of several characters across a day in London. While Clarissa Dalloway goes about preparing for a high-society party she is to host that evening, pondering on her childhood and marriage, nearby Septimus Warren Smith, a First World War veteran, is plagued with memories of the war and of his friend who never returned.
Weaving a multitude of voices and eras into one, dressed in the most beautiful of language, Mrs Dalloway has earned its reputation as one of the most iconic novels of the twentieth century and great successes of Modernist fiction.
This edition also contains 'Mrs Dalloway in Bond Street', the short story upon which the novel is modelled.
