Synopsis

They don’t talk much. They don’t need to.Real men—rough-edged, silent, unapologetically masculine—meet in the crackling heat of confrontation and the quiet pull of glances held a second too long. The Boy on the Beach is a collection of erotic short stories where desire rises from the grit of reality: bruised knuckles, soaked shirts, and the smell of salt or sweat in the air. This is not polished fantasy. This is raw, skin-to-skin virility.

In the title story, a golden boy walks the beach at dawn, hiding secrets behind ice-blue eyes and a body that turns heads without effort. When he spots a dark figure stumbling into the surf—jeans still clinging to his frame, drunk or desperate—he doesn’t think. He runs. And when he pulls him out, breathes life into him, the moment twists: from rescue to recognition, from mouth to mouth, skin to skin.

The boy—Walter—is fragile, shivering, silent. His long black hair clings to his face, his pride washed away with the tide. Daniele wraps an arm around his naked shoulders, pulls him close, not to seduce but to shelter. Jeans slide off easily. There's nothing underneath. The silence is heavier than any moan could be. Something electric hangs in the space between breath and restraint.

These stories don’t promise happy endings. They offer something more dangerous: truth. Flesh that bruises. Glances that expose. And men who burn for men, even when they don’t have the words for it.Open the book. Let it touch a nerve. And see what rises.

The self-admitted author of The Chemical Marriage, Johann Valentin Andreæ, born in Württemberg in 1586, was twenty-eight years of age when that work was first published. It was presumably written about twelve years prior to its publication--or when the author was fifteen or sixteen years old. The fact is almost incredible that one so young could produce a volume containing the wealth of symbolic thought and philosophy hidden between the lines of The Chemical Marriage. This book makes the earliest known reference to Christian Rosencreutz, and is generally regarded as the third of the series of original Rosicrucian manifestoes. As a symbolic work, the book itself is hopelessly irreconcilable with the statements made by Andreæ concerning it. The story of The Chemical Marriage relates in detail a series of incidents occurring to an aged man, presumably the Father C.R.C. of the Fama and Confessio. If Father C.R.C. was born in 1378, as stated in the Confessio, and is identical with the Christian Rosencreutz of The Chemical Marriage, he was elevated to the dignity of a Knight of the Golden Stone in the eighty-first year of his life (1459). In the light of his own statements, it is inconceivable that Andreæ could have been Father Rosy Cross.

Emily and I combined our powers and had an in-depth chat about Laurie Lawrence, his character arc and the lack of it in every-single-little-women adaptation. In the novel, Laurie starts out as a very idle and sometimes pretty misogynistic figure and it is thanks to Amy he becomes a better person, but these elements of him are not in the adaptations.
Friedrich Bhaer is based on philosopher Henry David Thoreau. Louisa was in love with him and he appears in literal disguise in all of her novels. He is also based on Alcott's favourite writer, the German poet Goethe. Unlike Greta Gerwig lies to millions of people, Jo and Friedrich never argue in the book, and Friedrich is the one who helps her to become a writer. Laurie is partially based on Alcott's ex, Laddie Wisniewski, and her friend Alf Whitman. She had a maternal relationship with both of these men who were younger than she. One of the goals of the Little Women podcast is to examine these relationships, and how Little Women adaptations ignore their significance. 150 year Laurie problem was the first episode of the Little Women podcast and it has become one of my most downloaded episodes. I am very humbled and happy about this. I do think it is imporant that film industry would pay more attention to his character. I hope you enjoy this chat between Emily and I.
Please notice that this is a short-form book, based on a podcast episode.
Little Women Podcast is an ongoing series of video essays, articles and podcast episodes that examines the intersections in Louisa May Alcott´s Little Women.
Hosted by Alcott essayist Niina Niskanen. Regular visits from literal scholars and Little Women fans.

    Cognitive Behavioral Therapy -...

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is a widely recognized and effective approach to mental health treatment that focuses on the powerful connection between our thoughts, emotions, and behaviors. The premise behind CBT is simple: our thoughts shape how we feel, and how we feel influences how we behave. In turn, our behaviors can either reinforce or challenge our thought patterns. By learning to identify, challenge, and reframe negative or distorted thoughts, CBT offers a roadmap to breaking unhealthy cycles and fostering positive change.
The key to lasting improvement in mental health often lies in addressing the underlying thought patterns that influence our emotional states. Our minds can become entrenched in negative thinking habits, which can lead to persistent feelings of sadness, anxiety, or stress. These patterns can often seem automatic or out of our control, but through CBT, we gain the tools to not only understand but actively change how we think.
The first step in this process is understanding the role of thought patterns in mental health. We all experience a wide range of thoughts throughout the day, some positive and others negative. While we may not always be able to control what thoughts arise, we can gain control over how we respond to them. Negative thoughts such as self-doubt, catastrophizing, and overgeneralizing can trigger emotional distress, which in turn influences our behaviors. If left unaddressed, these cycles can become entrenched, affecting our overall well-being and quality of life.
