Synopsis

In a secret society of wealthy and successful women, what defines men are their dimensions. They are nothing but well-paid slaves. They have no life of their own, relationships or wills and are also used as coins in poker games. Men exposed in a showcase to be rented and fulfill any women's whims. Even the most cruel.  They are called profanes.

Diogo only cares about the money. He needs to get rid of all the messes he's gotten himself into and find a way in life to protect the only thing he has left.  And, when he sees Marisa, he believes that it will be a pleasure to be hired as a rent boy. What he does not know is that profanes do not speak, do not touch or feel pleasure. They just obey.

The problem is that he's not a profane — and neither is the secret society just a women's club for having fun.

    This isn’t revenge. It’s reckoning.
When Sheriff Rebecca West answers a late-night dispatch about a fatal car accident on the bridge, she fears the worst. The victim isn't just any driver—he’s her informant. The man who risked everything to send her a thumb drive exposing the monster who shattered her life. He was on his way to Shadow Island, seeking her protection.
    Instead, he found death.
The strangulation marks covering his neck underscore the grim truth. This was no accident. It was an execution. And Rebecca knows exactly who’s behind it. He’s silenced anyone who’s dared to stand against him—her parents, an inventor who once worked for him… and now, her final connection to the truth.
    Now, he’s coming for her.
Every act of violence is a warning. Every victim that falls is a message. He doesn’t just kill—he makes examples. And unless Rebecca finds a way to stop him, she’s his next lesson.
The game is set. The pieces are moving. And the stakes? Everything.
Safety is an illusion, and Shadow’s Reckoning—the pulse-pounding twentieth installment of the Shadow Island Series by Mary Stone and Lori Rhodes—will have you checking over your shoulder long after you turn the last page.

Sometimes a novel idea can turn out to be a bad one.

Sally Simmons was rather misunderstood in the small town of Whitby, North Carolina. An awkward woman with a sly countenance, she became a regular at the library, spending a good deal of time scribbling in a notebook and staring vacantly off into space.

It turned out, to everyone's surprise, that Sally had been industriously penning a novel. To their greater surprise, it became something of a sensation, even landing itself on the bestseller lists.

Since much of the novel had been written within the hallowed walls of the Whitby Library, reference librarian Ann and other staff members decide to hold an event to celebrate Sally’s accomplishment and learn more about her book.

Sadly, it soon becomes evident that Sally's book was inspired by actual residents of Whitby—and that she concealed their identities poorly.

When Sally meets an unfortunate demise, it's up to Ann to figure out the killer so the police can throw the book at him.

"In war novels authors typically feature ships such as destroyers, battleships, or aircraft carriers, but not support vessels. By focusing on the support vessels, Parotti provides listeners with a different view of the two wars and leaves them with an appreciation for the crafts' significance along with the men who took care of these damaged ships." —National Maritime Historical Society

Assigned to US Navy Rescue Tug, the ATR-3X, not long after the German surrender in North Africa, Ensign Hal Goff and four other officers must support the Allied invasion of Sicily and Italy, shepherding navy ships to and from the bitter fighting. With the Allied advance finally stopped cold along the Winter Line beneath Monte Cassino, Hal and his ship become part of the grueling invasion of Anzio and the seemingly endless stalemate across Anzio's bloody beaches.

Phillip Parotti's thrilling novel treats his listeners to gripping World War II naval action in the Mediterranean Sea.
