Synopsis

This short horror story, written by Louisa May Alcott is about an Egyptologist , the love of his life and a mummy's curse.Inside the book we find a characteristic element of the writer's horror stories: the presence of the fatal female. Here he is impersonated by a mummified sorceress. When, after an expedition to Egypt, Professor Forsyt went to his girlfriend Evelyn with a box of mysterious scarlet seeds, she, out of curiosity, dragged the professor back to Egypt, inside the pyramid of Cheops ... and here the story is chilling.Inside the Pyramid, exhausted Forsyt lies down on the sand and falls asleep. When he wakes up he finds himself alone and rushes to frantically seek Niles. This work is considered thriller, because of the twists, the suspense, the speed in the succession of events, the presence of reversals of situations that encourage the reader to continue reading the book without ever getting tired.

The history of lycanthrope stretches back to man’s beginnings. From cave drawings and tribal folklore, from the Inquisition to the 20th Century, man’s fascination with werewolves has never wavered. New information is uncovered daily and the field of study has been ripped wide open with new information.
Now there is finally a book that covers all the diverse elements of these cursed but greatly misunderstood creatures. From the bloodstained history from Europe and into the New World, especially the United States, these creatures have been documented like no other. But there is also a need for practical information as well. “When Werewolves Attack” supplies just that type of insight.
How do you detect a werewolf when they are in human form? What if a family member is a werewolf? How do you defend yourself from an attack, in terms of weaponry and fortification whether you are inside or out in the woods? How do you escape from an attack of savage lycanthropes? Don’t be caught flat-footed again. This is the field guide everybody needs to protect themselves and their family.

“They said I could choose my reward. I choose you.”
It was a simple job: go to a wedding. Execute the groom.
Then I saw the bride, wearing a mountain of white satin, her lacy veil now spattered with blood. Instead of running away screaming like the rest of the wedding party, she raised her chin and stared at me, a challenge in her dark eyes. I felt a flicker of feeling in my cold dark heart...
Then she shot me. And I knew...
I had to make her mine.

The setting, geography and history of this story by Rev'd Sabine Baring-Gould, author of Onward Christian Soldiers and a number of other well-known hymns, are all accurate, or at least as accurate as local lore will allow. Kinver has long been a midlands beauty spot, and the UK National Trust own and open one of the rock-dwellings mentioned. The 'Stewponey' too was an inn until a year or two into the twenty-first century: http://www.blackcountrybugle.co.uk/News/Reminder-of-the-heyday-of-the-old-Stewponey-2.htm - the present reader having stopped there for a drink and a meal many times.

The story, whether you call it a romance, a historical novel or a horror story - comprising as it does a young woman being offered as a prize in a bowling match, a wife-burning, highwaymen and buried treasure - is of course wholly fiction. (Introduction by AJM)

In Sawgamet, a north woods boomtown gone bust, the cold of winter breaks the glass of the schoolhouse thermometer, and the dangers of working in the cuts are overshadowed by the mysteries and magic lurking in the woods. Stephen, a pastor, is at home on the eve of his mother's funeral, thirty years after the mythic summer his grandfather returned to the town in search of his beloved but long-dead wife. And like his grandfather, Stephen is forced to confront the losses of his past. Touch introduces you to a world where monsters and witches oppose singing dogs and golden caribou, where the living and the dead part and meet again in the crippling beauty of winter and the surreal haze of summer. Nominated for the Governor General Literary Award.
