Beschreibung

Television studios are magical places, and I should know only too well with my family's history in film and television. Massive arc lights with perfect round faces hanging on to steadfast lighting grids, lined up above shining white-floored studios, scattered with sets, dotted with cameras, booms, and technicians. Each time I walked past a bright red 'on air' light stuck to the studio wall, I felt curiously alive. I had met Paul, my husband there, who was working as an assistant director at the time. Things could not have been more perfect; the lifestyle, the love and the passion for what we did. Life however has a way of throwing you a curve ball every now and then. My curveball hit me hard and lost me nearly everything that I had. Without the love of friends and family I would not begin to find myself again and reshape my life like a sculptor. Chill Factor is a mesmerising journey through the splendour and glamour of television transitioning into the harsh drama of Lesley's reality when she finds out about Paul's malicious side. Lesley loses everything and her story is about how through difficulty she finds her own strength after years of being worn down and looks forward to what her future could be.

"The Jungle Book" by Rudyard Kipling is a collection of stories originally published in the late 19th century. The central focus is on the adventures of a young boy named Mowgli, who is raised by wolves in the Indian jungle. The book explores themes of nature, survival, and the conflict between civilization and the wild.
The narrative highlights the bonds formed between Mowgli and various animal characters, emphasizing the laws that govern the lives of the jungle's inhabitants. At the beginning of the book, we learn about Mowgli's origins when he is discovered by Father Wolf after wandering into the wolf pack's territory. The fierce tiger, Shere Khan, poses a significant threat as he seeks to claim Mowgli for himself. However, Mother Wolf fiercely defends Mowgli, declaring him as her own, which ignites a debate among the pack members about the implications of accepting a human child into their midst.
This opening sets the stage for Mowgli’s complex relationship with both the jungle and the human world, showcasing the challenges he faces as he grows up estranged from both realms. The tone of adventure and danger that permeates the stories to come invites listeners into a vividly imagined natural world.

"Persuasion" is the last of six books by the legendary British author Jane Austen. It was written during the years 1815-16 and published posthumously in 1818. In the story, we meet Anne Elliot, whose family is in crisis. Anne's once-wealthy father - widowed for fourteen years - has fallen into financial ruin and the family is forced to rent their estate and move to more modest accommodations. What's more, the family that moves in to the house is that of Captain Wentworth, who Anne rejected as a suitor years before due to his lack of prospects but who has now risen in the military ranks to become wealthy and prosperous. Anne, now twenty-seven, feels that she is past her prime and that her marriage prospects are dim. What follows is a fascinating and intricate story of intrigue, romance and last-chance love that has made "Persuasion" one of the most celebrated and beloved works of fiction in literary history. It is presented here in its original and unabridged format. The book is narrated by celebrated audiobook performer Sara Nichols.

Every great hero has an origin story and for the legendary Sherlock Holmes, it is "A Study in Scarlet," Arthur Conan Doyle's 1887 novel which introduced the world's leading (and only) consulting detective to the reading public. Though not an immediate sensation (the novel was received with moderate acclaim), it has gone on to become one of the most revered detective novels in history and its protagonists - Dr. John Watson and Sherlock Holmes - are easily the most recognized and celebrated crime fighting duo in all of literature. The plot is a familiar one to Holmes aficionados: Soon after becoming Holmes' roommate at 221B Baker Street, army veteran Dr. John Watson is invited to accompany the detective to a crime scene. A man has been poisoned and the word RACHE is discovered written in red on the wall. What follows is a wild and tumultuous adventure involving murder, deceit, revenge...and the strange history of the Mormon religion. It is also the story that introduced the world to Holmes' young assistants, a ragtag group of street urchins known as the Baker Street Irregulars. The story of the greatest detective in literary history...begins with this book. Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's "A Study in Scarlet" is proudly presented here in its original and unabridged format.

    Ford
I’ve never thought much about Orson Naples.
He’s a cute guy who I’d seen around town a few times, but then one day he up and left and didn’t reappear until a few years later. No one knows where he went or what he was doing, all this gossipy town knows is that he’s a widower, owns the florist, and is friends with that divorced group that hang out at the Killer Brew all the time.
But then one day I step into his flower shop and go from rarely thinking about him, to him constantly being on my mind.
There’s a restlessness to him that I’m dying to unlock answers to.
And his eyes linger on me a little too long for a straight man …
    Orson
Ford Thomas is a pest. A delightful one. A tempting one. But I’m too old for games.
The ones I’ve played in the past have always led me to trouble which is why I vowed to settle down and live a quiet life.
So when Ford walks into my shop all uncontained energy and flirty quips in a pair of heavy work boots, I know I should show him the door.
    I don’t need fun. I don’t need experiences.
Especially when those experiences have me questioning things I thought I knew about myself.
