  Andrew Jackson was an American attorney, soldier, and statesman who acted as the seventh president of the U.S. from 1829 to 1837. Jackson rose to prominence as a basic in the US Army and served in both homes of Congress before being chosen to the presidency. 
  Jackson, an expansionist president, defended the rights of the "commoner" and the Union against a "corrupt upper class."

  The Republic’s success was largely due to its military strength. The Roman legions were highly disciplined and adaptable, allowing Rome to expand its influence across the Italian Peninsula. Through a combination of warfare and strategic alliances, Rome defeated neighboring city-states and incorporated them into its growing domain. One of its defining moments came during the Punic Wars against Carthage (264–146 BCE), where figures like Scipio Africanus led Rome to decisive victories, securing its dominance over the Mediterranean.

This part of History also provides significant biographical and historical context for Mary's novels Frankenstein (1818) and The Last Man (1826), key sections of which are set in the Alps, and for two of Percy's most canonical poems, 'Hymn to Intellectual Beauty' and 'Mont Blanc', the second of which was published for the first time in History. This edition includes an introduction, detailed notes, and appendices, placing the book in its historical and cultural context and showcasing the Shelleys' collaborative writing process.
