Synopsis

Latisha Walker Adams is a young married woman, settled in a new home and her long-sought-after career. She's earned her DVM and treats small animals at a veterinary clinic in nearby Oxford, Mississippi. The parting words of her estranged mother haunt her: "You might want to check your DNA" causing her much unhappiness. Is it true, or did Angel Forrester throw those words at her in spite? Is LaMont her father? Beyond that is her beloved Gran, Rose Walker, really her grandmother? With the help of her established community: Liz, Gran, Cindy, Maddie, and other trusted members of her Roslyn circle, Tish balances work, a new marriage, and her search for the truth about Angel. Tish continues to find comfort in the small things of life, especially The Room, a natural space in the pine woods near her home and the former residence of her Aunt Liz's former mentor Brother Paul. Tish's resilience, fostered by her loving circle of family, friends, and the listening ear of a caring therapist helps her journey through deep feelings of abandonment and what she names as her "lack of pedigree."
