  The children gasped in pure delight, At this most magical sight, A talking lobster, golden-true, Like nothing they had ever knew. 
  "I've watched your family," Lulu said, "Since your great-grandfather's days," she led, "I've kept you safe upon the sea, A guardian spirit, wild and free." 
  Captain Jago faced a choice, Between his heart and practical voice, This golden lobster, rare and fine, Could make his family's fortune shine. 
  But Tegen spoke with gentle grace, "Papa, look at Lulu's face, She's not just treasure to be sold, But friend worth more than gold." 
  Young Lowen added with a grin, "Let kindness and love win, Great-Grandfather would set her free, Back to her home beneath the sea." 
  The children's wisdom touched his heart, And set his conscience apart, Captain Jago made his choice, Love would be his guiding voice. 
  With gentle hands he held her high, Beneath the Cornish morning sky, "Dear Lulu, you must be free, To swim back to your deep blue sea." 
  Lulu promised as she went, Her gratitude would never be spent, She'd guide their nets and keep them blessed, For choosing love above the rest. 
  Into the sparkling blue ocean waves she gracefully slipped away, But her wonderful magic lives on today, In hearts that choose what's good and right.

  It's a well known fact that H.P. Lovecraft was a horribly racist man, and that some of his earliest stories reflect that particular worldview. This can make it awkward for those who would like to read his work and see what all the fuss is about but don't want to have to wade through the putrid swamp of his views on people of color and immigrants. 
  In response to this issue, I have put together this collection of the H.P. Lovecraft short stories written between 1917 and 1923, but with the omission of the really racist ones (there are still one or two lines in one or two of the stories included here that might raise the odd eyebrow, but nothing overtly racist). You may now peruse the works of the master of weird fiction without fear that you'll have to deal with his opinions of the master race, and that's a good thing. Lovecraft was a racist douchebag, but he was also a visionary writer of amazingly creative and breathtaking stories without which entire genres of fiction would not exist, and on that score the literary world owes him a debt of gratitude. 
  In this audio book version I will read you the stories as suspensefully and creepily they deserve to be read. For best results, listen on a good set of headphones. In the dark. Under a blanket. Just don't expect to get much sleep.

  Florence Barlow glanced up through the kitchen window. "He's gone up on the ridge," she said. "He's just standing up there, looking down the valley." She turned back to the stove, pushing back an unruly whisp of graying hair. 
  George sat back in his chair, puffing his pipe, the uneasiness growing. Tad was usually back from town hours earlier. The oats had to be cut this week—the shipment of Venusian taaro was due from the next Rocket, and they had to have a field free for it. But still, he knew it was more than the tractor bolts that bothered him. 
  Then suddenly the door burst open and Tad was there, filling the room with his broad shoulders, whistling tunelessly to himself. A cool east breeze followed him in the door, and with it an aura of excitement. Tad's sunbaked hair was wild from the ride through the wind, his sharp eyes sparkling: 
  "Dad! The Rocket landed this afternoon. Out at Dillon's Landing. It's three weeks early this time!"
