Synopsis

Motivation Keys explores the science of what drives us, offering strategies to boost discipline, beat procrastination, and overcome mental fatigue for greater success and well-being. It examines the interplay of intrinsic (internal desires) and extrinsic (external rewards) motivation, helping you understand how to tailor your approach. The book highlights the importance of habit formation, breaking down tasks, and using cognitive strategies like reframing negative thoughts to build resilience.

Procrastination, often rooted in fear or perfectionism, is tackled head-on with techniques like the Pomodoro Technique and prioritization methods. Mental fatigue, a significant yet often overlooked obstacle, is addressed with mindfulness and lifestyle adjustments. Through a structured approach, the book progresses from foundational theories to actionable tactics, ending with a personalized roadmap for goal achievement.

This book stands out with its clear breakdown of complex psychological concepts into accessible, practical advice. Case studies and real-world examples illustrate how to apply these concepts in various life domains, from academics to career advancement, making Motivation Keys a valuable resource for anyone seeking self-improvement and enhanced productivity.

These days, hot chicken is a "must-try" Southern food. Restaurants in New York, Detroit, Cambridge, and even Australia advertise that they fry their chicken "Nashville-style." Thousands of people attend the Music City Hot Chicken Festival each year. The James Beard Foundation has given Prince's Chicken Shack an American Classic Award for inventing the dish.

But for almost seventy years, hot chicken was made and sold primarily in Nashville's Black neighborhoods—and the story of hot chicken says something powerful about race relations in Nashville, especially as the city tries to figure out what it will be in the future.

Hot, Hot Chicken recounts the history of Nashville's Black communities through the story of its hot chicken scene from the Civil War, when Nashville became a segregated city, through the tornado that ripped through North Nashville in March 2020.

For anyone who has ever said, “It feels like we’re living in different realities,” an unforgettable read and definitive explainer of the strange history of evangelical conspiracy theory.
Conspiracy theories are at the root of the most pressing political problems of our time, yet their influence cuts just as personal. Suspicion has fractured families, communities, churches, and our very social fabric, as one person’s fact is another’s fake news.
In Reality in Ruins, Dr. Jared Stacy braves the untold history of conspiracism in American evangelicalism and the anxiety at the heart of this radioactive movement that affects us all. In a new age of what he calls “Disreality,” many are left reeling in the ruins of what was once a common world, now splintered by warring ideologies, religious and political extremism, and cults of certainty. Dr. Stacy reports from the inside as someone raised and even ordained in one of the nation’s most conservative denominations. Now, as a historian and post-evangelical theologian, Dr. Stacy traces the currents of pain, panic, and power that have thrust the evangelical church into a theological crisis with consequence for everyone.
For concerned citizens, Christians who are sounding the alarm on Christian Nationalism, and anyone grieving the relationships paranoia has ruptured, Reality in Ruins profiles the problem, validates your pain, prepares you for good resistance, and empowers you to become the truth-tellers a common world deserves.

    Why War?

    Richard Overy

Why has war been such a consistent presence throughout the human past? A leading historian explains, drawing on rich examples and keen insight.

Richard Overy is not the first scholar to take up the title question. In 1931, at the request of the League of Nations, Albert Einstein asked Sigmund Freud to collaborate on a short work examining whether there was "a way of delivering mankind from the menace of war." Published the next year as a pamphlet entitled Why War?, it conveyed Freud's conclusion that the "death drive" made any deliverance impossible—the psychological impulse to destruction was universal in the animal kingdom. The global wars of the later 1930s and 1940s seemed ample evidence of the dismal conclusion.

A preeminent historian of those wars, Overy brings vast knowledge to the title question and years of experience unraveling the knotted motivations of war. His approach is to separate the major drivers and motivations, and consider the ways each has contributed to organized conflict. They range from the impulses embedded in human biology and psychology, to the incentives to conflict developed through cultural evolution, to competition for resources. The discussions show remarkable range, delving deep into the Neolithic past, through the twentieth-century world wars, and up to the current conflict in Ukraine.
