This comprehensive guide is for those seeking to understand or improve their fertility potential. The book examines how inheritable elements can predispose individuals to certain fertility challenges, while emphasizing that lifestyle choices, such as diet and stress management, have significant impacts. Readers will also discover how medical conditions, like hormonal imbalances, can affect fertility.

The book takes a systematic approach, beginning with reproductive physiology and genetics, then progresses to discuss genetic predispositions, lifestyle impacts (like obesity and smoking), and medical conditions such as PCOS and endometriosis. Notably, it also addresses assisted reproductive technologies like IVF and IUI, highlighting their benefits and limitations.

Did you know that specific dietary patterns can significantly influence hormonal balance and reproductive function, or that environmental toxins can also impact fertility? The book integrates scientific findings to provide a holistic view, bridging biology with health. It emphasizes actionable insights useful for assessing risk factors, making informed decisions, and communicating effectively with healthcare providers, making it valuable for anyone interested in health & fitness, biology, or reproductive medicine. ‘Sophie writes fantastically, chronicling the most important issues facing nature conservationists today.’ Chris Packham
For thousands of years, humans have been the architects of the natural world. Our activities have permanently altered the environment – for good and for bad.
In Nature’s Ghosts, award-winning journalist Sophie Yeo examines how the planet would have looked before humans scrubbed away its diversity: from landscapes carved out by megafauna to the primeval forests that emerged following the last Ice Age, and from the eagle-haunted skies of the Dark Ages to the flower-decked farms of more recent centuries.
Uncovering the stories of the people who have helped to shape the landscape, she seeks out their footprints even where it seems there are none to be found. And she explores the timeworn knowledge that can help to fix our broken relationship with the earth.
Along the way, Sophie encounters the environmental detectives – archaeological, cultural and ecological – reconstructing, in stunning detail, the landscapes we have lost.
Today, the natural world is more vulnerable than ever; the footprints of humanity heavier than they have ever been. But, as this urgent book argues, from the ghosts of the past, we may learn how to build a more wild and ancient future.
Sophie Yeo's Nature’s Ghosts is a non-fiction masterpiece that takes us on a journey through the science of ecology, exploring the habitats and ecosystems that have been altered by human activity. The book emphasises the need for protection of these resources, offering a glimpse into the past to help us understand how we can shape a better future.
For fans of Robert Macfarlane (Is a River Alive?), Robin Wall Kimmerer (The Democracy of Species), Isabella Tree (Wilding), Jennifer Ackerman (What an Owl Knows), and Derek Gow (Birds, Beasts and Bedlam).

    Burnt - Fighting for Climate...

Time is up. The climate crisis is no longer a future to be feared, but a devastating reality. We see it in the wildfires in California and floods across Britain—the "once in a generation" extreme weather events that now happen every year.

In a world where those in charge are constantly letting us down, real change in our lifetime means taking power into our own hands. The task ahead of us is daunting, but the emergence of a new wave of movements focused on climate justice, equality, and solidarity also brings hope.

Asking how we have arrived at this moment, Chris Saltmarsh argues that the profoundly political nature of the environmental crisis has been relentlessly downplayed. After all, how can solar panels save us while capitalism places profit over the future of the planet? Analyzing the failures of NGOs, the limitations of Extinction Rebellion and Youth Strikes, the role of trade unions, and the possibilities of a Green New Deal, Burnt issues a powerful call for a radical collective movement: saving the world is not enough; we must build a better one in the process.

Thomas Alva Edison (February 11, 1847 – October 18, 1931) was an American inventor and businessman. He developed many devices that greatly influenced life around the world, including the phonograph, motion picture camera, and a long-lasting, practical electric light bulb. Dubbed "The Wizard of Menlo Park", he was one of the first inventors to apply the principles of mass production and large-scale teamwork to the process of invention, and because of that, he is often credited with the creation of the first industrial research laboratory. The following, from 1908, is a commemoration at the New York Electrical Show of the 50th anniversary of the first Atlantic cable. Thomas Augustus Watson (January 18, 1854 – December 13, 1934) was as a bookkeeper and a carpenter before becoming an assistant to Alexander Graham Bell, aiding in the the invention of the telephone in 1876. He is best known because his name was one of the first words spoken over the telephone. "Mr. Watson, come here, I want to see you," were the first words Bell said using the new invention, according to Bell's laboratory notebook. Guglielmo Marconi (25 April 1874 – 20 July 1937) was an Italian inventor, known for his pioneering work on long distance radio transmission and radio telegraph system. Marconi shared the 1909 Nobel Prize in Physics with Karl Ferdinand Braun "in recognition of their contributions to the development of wireless telegraphy". As an entrepreneur, businessman, and founder of the The Wireless Telegraph & Signal Company in Britain in 1897, Marconi succeeded in making a commercial success of radio by innovating and building on the work of previous experimenters and physicists. The following is from a talk he gave in 1935 about how he received the first transatlantic message by wireless telegraphy.
