Sinopse

This is a reclamation and reposition Tupac within the global African consciousness from which he emerged and to which he continually returned in his art and actions. From the symbolism in his tattoos to the political lessons tucked inside his rhymes, Tupac lived as a conduit for the struggles of a people long scattered but never silenced.

Tupac as Africa remembered him, is a griot, a warrior-poet, a son of exile, seeking home in a world that never stopped warring with his kind. Through his words, his actions, and his lasting resonance presenting Tupac: whose struggle for justice was deeply African in nature and whose legacy continues to ripple across continents

The Qing Dynasty, China’s last imperial dynasty, emerged from the northeastern frontier, led by the Manchu people. Before establishing their rule over China, the Manchus were a semi-nomadic group descended from the Jurchens, who had previously ruled northern China under the Jin Dynasty. In the early 17th century, Nurhaci, a formidable leader, laid the foundation for Manchu power by unifying various Jurchen tribes and adopting administrative and military structures inspired by the Ming Dynasty. His successor, Hong Taiji, continued these efforts, formally establishing the Qing Dynasty in 1636. However, the conquest of China was still incomplete, as the Ming Dynasty continued to rule the heartland.
The decline of the Ming Dynasty provided an opportunity for the Qing to assert their dominance. By the early 17th century, the Ming government was weakened by internal corruption, peasant uprisings, and economic distress exacerbated by famine and mismanagement. The most devastating of these rebellions was led by Li Zicheng, a former postal worker turned insurgent, whose forces overran Beijing in 1644. The fall of the Ming capital marked a critical turning point. With the Ming emperor dead and the central government in disarray, a Ming general, Wu Sangui, faced a difficult choice: resist the rebel forces or seek outside aid. He chose the latter, opening the gates of the Great Wall at Shanhai Pass to the advancing Qing army. The Manchus, under the leadership of Prince Dorgon, seized the moment, swiftly capturing Beijing and declaring the establishment of Qing rule.

A magnificent work of original research that unravels history through textiles and cloth—how we make it, use it, and what it means to us.

How is a handmade fabric helping save an ancient forest? Why is a famous fabric pattern from India best known by the name of a Scottish town? How is a Chinese dragon robe a diagram of the whole universe? What is the difference between how the Greek Fates and the Viking Norns used threads to tell our destiny?

In Fabric, bestselling author Victoria Finlay spins us round the globe, weaving stories of our relationship with cloth and asking how and why people through the ages have made it, worn it, invented it, and made symbols out of it. And sometimes why they have fought for it.

She beats the inner bark of trees into cloth in Papua New Guinea, fails to handspin cotton in Guatemala, visits tweed weavers at their homes in Harris, and has lessons in patchwork-making in Gee's Bend, Alabama.

She began her research just after the deaths of both her parents—and entwined in the threads she found her personal story too. Fabric is not just a material history of our world, but Finlay's own journey through grief and recovery.

Audio Snaps is a series of 100 minute audiobooks packed with fun stories from my books about my life in the music business. Volume One features stories from You Don’t Have to Say You Love Me, a book I wrote in 1983 about my time in London in the Sixties when, amongst other things, I was managing the Yardbirds and wrote the lyrics to the song, You Don’t Have to Say You Love Me. Reading it back now, it seems extraordinarily frank, more so than I might be nowadays, and sometimes rather rude too. When it came out, the music press loathed the book, I think because it trivialised the music industry, whereas the tabloids loved it. Nowadays, they’ve all come to see it as a classic of its time and the Observer newspaper has it at Number Eleven on its list of “The 50 Greatest Music Books Ever.” In the Independent, Charles Shaar Murray called my books, “ The cold print equivalent of spending an evening with a world-class raconteur.” With Audio Snaps, you get the raconteur without wading through the cold print.

    ABOUT THE FILM
"Braveheart" is an epic historical drama set in 13th-century Scotland, directed by and starring Mel Gibson. The film follows William Wallace, a common man who leads a revolt against the oppressive rule of King Edward I of England. After the brutal execution of his wife, Wallace embarks on a journey to unite the Scottish clans in their fight for freedom. The film explores themes of liberty, sacrifice, and leadership, focusing on Wallace’s personal journey and the broader struggle for independence. With intense battle sequences and emotional depth, "Braveheart" highlights the cost of fighting for justice.

    TRIVIA SAMPLES:

“Mel Gibson initially rejected the role of William Wallace, believing he was too old. However, Paramount Pictures insisted on casting him, so Gibson eventually accepted.”

“When a local asked why the Battle of Stirling Bridge was filmed on an open plain instead of the actual bridge, Gibson humorously responded that "the bridge got in the way." The local retorted, "Aye, that's what the English found."

“One of the film's extras mistook one of Mel Gibson's children for an errand boy and asked him to fetch tea. Gibson overheard and whispered to his son, "Go get it."

“In an interview in 2009, Mel Gibson acknowledged that the film was heavily fictionalized but defended the changes as necessary for dramatic effect. He also mentioned that he felt at least a decade too old to play Wallace.”
