  Hallo - I'm Mark Wood. As an England and Durham cricketer who was born, raised and refined in Ashington, Northumberland, my life has been quite unique.  
  Over the course of my career so far, I've won an Ashes and a World Cup in an international career that at the time of writing is going on seven years and counting. Being a fast bowler like myself is up there with the toughest of all sporting pursuits, like being Tyson Fury's punchbag or working behind the bar during the darts at Ally Pally. Being a cricketer? There's nothing like it. And doing it for England? Well, I'm lucky to call it a profession. There's been a lot of hard work along the way. Plenty of sacrifices and pain to accompany the good times that make them all worthwhile. I've been everywhere, from Barbados to Brisbane, Chester-le-Street to Chennai, waiting rooms to operating tables. I've played in some of the most exotic locations in the world and eaten margherita pizzas in every single one of them. To be honest, it's amazing I've waited this long to bring out my own self-help book.

  Before the Law - From their pens...

  Franz Kafka was born on 3rd July 1883 in Prague, then in Bohemia, the eldest of 6, into a middle-class Jewish family. 
  Life for the young Kafka and his passion for literature was often made an ordeal by his over-bearing and domineering entrepreneur of a father.   
  In 1889 Kafka was sent to the Deutsche Knabenschule, an elementary school in Prague. His father would only allow him to be educated in German-speaking schools and even went so far as to limit visits to the synagogue to four a year. 
  In 1901 he graduated from the classics-oriented Altstädter Gymnasium. Kafka did well there and across a large range of subjects.  He now enrolled at the Charles Ferdinand University, to study chemistry, but quickly switched to law for which he obtained his degree in June 1906 and then performed the mandatory year of unpaid service as clerk at the civil and criminal courts. 
  A job at an Italian insurance company left him little time to write and after a year he took another job with the Worker's Accident Insurance Institute for the Kingdom of Bohemia where he stayed until ill health led to his resignation in 1922. 
  Although he saw work as a means to pay the bills and to allow him time to write, he received several promotions and was noted as a good employee. 
  By 1917 Kafka was suffering from tuberculosis, which required frequent periods of convalescence. Interspersed with this, were several intense affairs before he settled in Berlin with Dora Diamant, a 25-year-old kindergarten teacher who herself having left the ghetto now influenced Kafka's interest in the book of Jewish law, the Talmud. 
   
   
  Kafka’s on-going health was littered with problems. Apart from TB there were several other ailments, including migraines, insomnia, boils, depression, all usually brought on by excessive stresses and strains. He attempted to counteract all of this by naturopathic treatments, a vegetarian diet and consuming large quantities of unpasteurized milk. 
  His tuberculosis still worsened. He returned to Prague, where he died on 3rd June 1924. He was 40.

  James Cook - His First Voyage...

  Captain James Cook FRS was a British explorer, navigator, cartographer, and captain in the Royal Navy who is most well-known for his 3 explorations to the Pacific Ocean, especially to Australia, between 1768 and 1779. Prior to finishing 3 trips to the Pacific, he drew precise maps of Newfoundland and made the first documented European encounter with the eastern coast of Australia and the Hawaiian Islands, and the first noted circumnavigation of New Zealand. 
  As a youngster, Cook signed up with the British merchant fleet before signing up with the Royal Navy in the year 1755. Throughout the siege of Quebec, he saw fight in the 7 Years' War and later on surveyed and recorded much of the Saint Lawrence River's entryway, bringing him to the notification of the Admiralty and the Royal Society. That honor took place at a rather critical point in his profession and in the direction of British abroad expedition, resulting in his appointment as leader of HMS Endeavor for the first of 3 Pacific explorations in the year 1766.  
  Cook traveled countless kilometers over mainly untouched parts of the world on these journeys. He checked out spots in the Pacific Ocean from New Zealand to Hawaii in greater detail and on a scale never ever before seen by Western explorers. For the first time, he surveyed and recognized things, and recording isles and shorelines on European maps. He displayed seamanship, remarkable surveying and cartography abilities, physical bravery, and the capability to lead men to different area all over the world.
